Good list, i always seem to rank Dixon good as a feather though, could be wrong on him, i admittedly dont know all there is to know about him. I like the guys who dominated their era for the top spots in a division's historical rankings normally (this is all subjective though and i have my exceptions). I remember when you and i were quite new to this forum and i stated i like Jofre as an ATG and you weren't convinced by his resume, the debate was in a p4p sense though if i remember correctly though. Zarate still my number 1, i just like his dominance, but Jofre and him are 1 and 2 whichever way imo, Olivares behind them imo for the reason you stated, just a bit less consistent than them 2. Ortiz and Brown both were the best of their eras also, i'd probably fill out my top 10 with Chandler, Harada, Rose and Herman maybe, but i could put Canizales in their, just on how he carried himself as a 'champion', or maybe Becerra? But like i said, this weight is not my forte so i wouldnt be too sure on filling a top 10 yet. Wouldnt like to make a fatal mistake and get slaughtered here!!!
Castillo beat Olivares by tko from a bad cut, I think it was in the 14th round? The fight was very close so could have gone Chu Chu's way,,,not known of course. I don't think this loss deminishes Rock a-byes standing and he clearly beat Castillo in the rematch.
Peak for peak, I like Olivares by KO within 8 rounds. He`d close the gap and get inside on Carlos to neutralize his height and reach advantage and beat the **** out of him to the body in close quarters.
..............While he may not have been as consistent, I like Olivares if he comes in prepared. It wouldn't astonish me to see Zarate take him out either, but I think Olivaes is sometimes given short shrift concerning his skills. He could box exceptionally well and had crushing power; he was also the prototypical Mexican body puncher. No one did it better, not even Zarate. I notice Zarate, for all his greatness, could be stung, especially early (when Olivares was particularly dangerous). Both Zamora and Martinez had him wobbled before falling, and Olivares was a better finisher than either.
BIG DEE HERE = I was at the Zarate vs Zamora fight 3 rd row and Zamora while a damn good Bantamweight wasn`t Ruben Olivares. Zarate couldn`t take it like Olivares could and it showed when he tried to step up in class and got butchered. Olivares went up and took the featherweight title and skipped the Jr featherweights all together. OLIVARES BY 6TH RD KO OVER ZARATE. ZARATE WAS TO UPRIGHT AND MECHANICAL FOR OLIVARES WHO WOULD RIP HIS LEFT HOOKS INTO ZARATES RIGHT SIDE BRINGING HIS GUARD DOWN AND NAILING HIM TO THE CHIN. IT WOULD BE OVER IN 6 RDS.
BIG DEE HERE= Olivares`s problem was getting out of shape between fights as he was a drinker and partier. His style matched up badly with Chu Chu Castillio and it was war everytime they fought with Harrera he was weight drained trying to make 118 which he was outgrowing. The loss to Kotey was a joke as Olivares won it but lost it anyway. OLIVARES`S OWN FAULT AS HE LOOKED LIKE HE TRAINED IN THE BEST BAR IN TOWN.
