I like Fullmer by decision, be it over 10 or 15 rounds makes no difference.

I think Gene would fight Rubin much the same way he did against Carmen Basilio in both of their encounters... by boxing him and keeping the fight at a distance. Many people do not give Gene enough credit for just how well he could box and adapt to different styles, he was a much smarter fighter than given credit for.

Carter would be pressing and looking to engage in close quarters, but Fullmer would stick and move and work the body whenever Carter got in close. As the fight drags into the later rounds I think Gene will start to maul and brawl a bit more with Rubin, and will win the fight going away in the last few rounds.

Rubin would have some initial success early in the fight, but down the stretch Gene will take over and secure enough rounds in the bank to win the fight clearly. Carter was a good fighter and dangerous, hard-hitting contender at his best, but Fullmer was another animal altogether and was too complete a fighter for someone like Carter to topple.

Fullmer by decision in a competitive, but ultimately one-sided contest.
