If he gets by Macklin...this wouldnt be terrible.....definately bigger fights out there for him though. Beating a guy who Pavlik completey destroyed 4 years ago, isnt going to do a tonne for his resume.
Wouldn't mind seeing it. Two big hitters going at it. Another fight on the same level as Macklin for GGG, providing he gets past that one. Needs to step the competition soon though, dude's 31 already.
call me crazy but i would rather seem him fight guys with a ****ing title instead of another junior middle weight lifer
I kind of wish Macklin and Rubio could have a box-off to challenge Golovkin. They would provide more fireworks against each other than either would against GGG, IMO - and whoever came out ahead would unquestionably deserve the opportunity with no room for nitpicking.
More GGG defenses immune to criticism = better for GGG. :deal Personally, neither Macklin and Rubio getting in with him right now bothers me. If one beat the other and challenged directly off that, nobody could **** with it.
I didn't see too many objections to Macklin when it was announced, the mood seemed like "FINALLY GGG is getting a legit MW fight!". ASSUMING GGG gets by Macklin and in impressive fashion, Rubio would be a good setup fight with JCC Jr.
I would rather he fought another top 10 MW after he faces his first in Macklin, but I really don't have much of a problem with a Rubio fight. At least he's a legit MW. He may not be top 10 at MW but he's close. This is especially acceptable given Golovkin's activity in 2013.
Rubio's a legit MW who's stood toe to toe with Chavez for 12 and outlasted Lemieux's onslaught to stop him, on top of that he stays active. I'd pick him over Macklin in a fight. Personally I'm hoping HBO fronts big money to get GGG-Quillin in September.
