Undefeated Santana is a hyped local fighter. This is Rubio's last hooray before fighting Lemieux in March.

Was Rubio put on his ass vs Pavlik, or did he just quit?! That was in February 2009... the only decent guy he beat since then was Miller.

"The goal for Lemieux is to fight Rubio to become the mandatory challenger," said Michel, "and, before the end of the year, 2011, to challenge Sergio Martinez for the world title."

Martinez might fight Zbik if that works for both HBO and the WBC, but Martinez-Lemieux before the end of 2011 would be sweeeeeeeet. :hey

Rubio probably just wants one last fight as a ranked fighter before Lemieux sends his ass to gatekeeper's-ville.

How early does Boxrec list upcoming fights, do you know? I fear that we won't see David in action before March, even after Gates' brutal ring escape from early Dec. Rubio fights on Saturday, fights again 2 months after that... Lemieux has been racking up fights, had 5 in 2010. A stay busy fight with Ishe Smith, who declined GYM's 2-week notice for a fight late Nov (i.e. the Gates fight), would be great for David's development.

11 Feb 2011 is one of the 'Fast & Furious' series dates, which David's fight vs Gates was a part of. The Rubio fight will be on a higher profile card.

On a side note, I'm praying for Maravilla not to vacate the belt... Lemieux-Zbik would not be uber exciting. Possible massacre.

Rubio never looked seriously hurt in the Pavlik fight. I think the beating he took was more mental than physical.

Pavlik put him on the ropes, and then let him go multiple times. In the 6th round Pavlik stood flat footed in front of Rubio with his hands at chest height, and Rubio could not hit him.

Right near the end of that round Pavlik just stopped, got a stupid grin on his face, and did some Mayorga type **** by letting Rubio tee-off on him. Rubio not only could not hurt KP, he couldn't even knock the grin off his face. From that point on Rubio seemed to know he was totally screwed.

LOL yeah, just finished watching Part II of the fight on youtube. Nice.

Now, found something that was posted yesterday on netboxe.com... I'll translate it.

    - The WBC bumped Quebecer David Lemieux up one spot in their world middleweight rankings, putting him in the number 2 spot, just behind Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Those newly dealt cards could give a winning hand to Yvon Michel and allow him to bypass the scheduled Rubio fight.

    - Let's remind ourselves that the WBC sanctioned an eliminator between Lemieux and Rubio at their last convention (?). Yvon Michel would like to hold the fight in Montreal, in the April timeframe, as part of the last event of the Fast & Furious series. Not being able to come to an agreement, both parties will most likely take part in a bidding process which the WBC should hold in January (note: deadline is Jan 7th).

    - However, with these new rankings, Lemieux could end up facing interim champ Sebastian Zbik. If current WBC Champion Sergio Gabriel Martinez were to refuse to fight Zbik as ordered by the WBC, Martinez would lose the belt and Zbik could become the titlist. Zbik would then have to defend the belt (as part of the crowning process) against a mandatory opponent which could be the winner of a Chavez Jr - Lemieux fight. If Chavez Jr were to refuse to fight Lemieux, we could see a Zbik-Lemieux fight.

Martinez has not shown any respect at all for the middleweight championship. He only wants to fight welters and junior welters. He already said he won't fight Zbik. It's actually rather sad because 160 is the only division in boxing that has a direct and easy to trace lineage back to all 4 major titles. Martinez will probably **** that up. He does not have enough respect for the sport to take care of business by handling his mandatory.

I think Lemiuex can beat Zbik. Rubio has lost fights every way you can lose. He's been caught cold and stopped. He's been out boxed. He's been humiliated into quitting, et, et. He's actually a pretty good fighter, but he looses the important ones. If he got cracked hard by young David, he might freeze up, and that would be the beginning of the end right there.

A local tv station showed Lemieux-Contreras last night....... fear. You could see fear in Contreras' face after the 2nd minute of the 2nd round, after being caught by 2 left hooks in less than 20 secs. Contreras was the tallest -and, arguably, the toughest- journeyman David had faced up to that point (Nov '09). Purnell 'Knock you out' Gates also showed he was afraid of getting hit by David.

Anber's gonna go "David, start downstairs and work your way up!" between the 1st and the 2nd vs Rubio, and Rubio might start to run for his life after the first flurry to the body David throws. - NO MAS! :D

Pardon my ignorance, but how do you explain this 'direct and easy to trace lineage back to all 4 major titles' at 160?

Hopkins had all four titles when he lost to Taylor. Jermain let the IBF and WBA titles go so he could rematch Hopkins. Taylor let go of two titles, but he was still the undisputed middleweight champ when Pavlik beat him.

Martinez won the WBC and WBO titles when he beat Pavlik. He refused to make a commitment to defend the WBO title at 160. The WBO did not ask Martinez to do anything other than say, "yes, I'll defend the title at 160." Martinez refused to say that, so the WBO stripped him.

In spite of a bit of confusion here and there, the lineage is clear. Hopkins, Taylor, Pavlik, Martinez. Abraham and Sturm were just titlists. They were never "the champ." The same is true of Sylvester and Pirog.

So...is there any chance of the Rubio-Lemieux plans getting spoiled?

This Santana fellow seems to be a huge question mark. He'll be fighting Rubio in calendar year 2011, after having last fought in calendar year 2009 - with a layoff exceeding 14 months. His record looks good at first glance but seems to consist largely of Dominican fishermen. The one fighter he's ever faced that brought in a winning record (a whopping 1-0) held him to a SD.

So we know he's rusty, and that he doesn't have a glittering resume. What we don't know is whether or not he possesses anything whatsoever to trouble Rubio...and there is no way of knowing that without having seen him. So...has anybody here from DR ever seen him?
