This content is protected Rubio promises KO! When #1 contender and mandatory challenger Marco Antonio Rubio worked out in front of a full media contingent yesterday in Youngstown, including two network affiliate television stations which broadcast live from the gym, he made a bold prediction. “I have a secret plan that will not only take the world title belt from Pavlik, but will produce a knockout in front of all his fans,” proclaimed Rubio. “I really enjoy Youngstown and I look forward to showing Pavlik and his team around Mexico when they come down for the rematch to try to reclaim my title.” Rubio challenges WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik this Saturday at the sold-out Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio. The Pavlik-Rubio rumble headlines a two-city / two-world title doubleheader broadcast live on Pay-Per-View. February 18th, 2009 Whats up with this guy? Is he trying to generate interest for the PPV? Is he trying to keep his confidence level high, or does he real think he has a plan to do damage to Kelly? Either way, I expect KP to box him silly until he feels he's done enough the satisfy the homecrowd & then he will dispose of Mr. Rubio at the appropriate time. ((((((((((((GO PAVLIK))))))))))))) Amazing the lack of dicussion about this weekends Middleweight Title fight.atsch
Rubio looks a decent fighter but he is made for Pavlick from what ive seen.I think Kelly will get him out of there early. As for Rubio mouthing off,it probably is to generate interest for ppv.
EDIT Jetski and I were posting this info at the same time. Let's keep this all together here: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123938 Shocked I tell you. Shocked! http://vindy.com/news/2009/feb/18/rubio-confident-of-victory/
Damned. I was making a thread when you did. Us unemployed guys need to coordinate better. Mine has a link to the local rag article. Now yours does too. :good
I think Rubio/Pavlik is going to be a lot more competitive than people are expecting it too be. Not only is Kelly overrated anyhow, but he is coming off the biggest beating sustained in the ring during last year. I wouldn't be surprised if the punch stats showed that Kelly failed to land even a single punch on the crafty Bernard Hopkins. It'll be interesting to see how he recovers, because he looked beaten and dejected after the Hopkins fight.
He'll bounce back fine. He knows the circimstances that were present (besides Hopkins) that caused him to look like crap. He's gonna be the same ol Monster Middleweight he was before he stubbed his toe.
Y-town is crazy ready for this fight. Rubio is a sound fighter and rarely spouts off so he has to be doing his mouthing off only to generate PPV buys. Kelly has his say today and tomorrow the weigh in.:happy
Looks like I'm going back to work the 1st week of March. Thats almost 9 months off... Good article, Hermit! http://vindy.com/news/2009/feb/18/rubio-confident-of-victory/
Pipe, UnclePaulie and myself are going to get together before the matches. Thunderlips is going to 'tailgate'. Weather doesn't look promising for that though. And that is after they have upped the high and low since they first posted for Saturday. :-( You are invited. Even if to stop in and shake hands.
There has been every indication from Pavlik's camp that Kelly will be 'boxing' more during this. So, yeah, this should be interesting. However, if Kelly gets him hurt, I don't see him NOT using his finishing skills if the opportunity shows itself. You have a source on this one? Other than Sturm using that as an excuse, I haven't heard any rumor of that out of the Pavlik camp. Arum is saying Duddy the next fight and those closer to Pavlik say Abraham in June. Of course no serious negotiations begin until after the Rubio fight. I dont' think Pavlik would go to Germany and can't pay the money Sturm turned down from AA. Sturm was robbed his last time here and that sent him into his cocoon.
