I liked the 80s Ruddock...this video shows just what a talented specimen he was..he shows the footwork and mobility he pretty much discarded after 1991...along with his durability, chin and right hand. I wonder ....if Tyson had gone to prison a year earlier...would things have been different....it still would have meant he had to take on holyfield...than Lewis and Bowe...so I doubt it. Or what if...Ruddock had come along like he did..5-6 years earlier...meaning he fights for a alphabet title in 83/84...i think he wouldve won a alphabet title....in that scenario i can see him holding it for a few years beating the ,coetzees, bey, tubbs,m frazier"s,Williams...even spinks... The prime 1988-1991 Ruddock was a helluva fighter before he became one armed. He's another who if he had a trainer like Eddie Futch or Emmanuel Steward he couldve done a lot more as a pro....
It's all part of my complex theorem of boxing relativity. So far I have worked out 6^5÷4x^3-4y= Ruddock KO 3 Holmes Would you like to see the equation that I worked out to prove that Trevor Berbick KO prime Joe Louis in 5?
Razor did have some good trainers (Floyd Patterson etc) but he was stubborn. As soon as he abandoned the box and move style in favour of standing his ground and unleashing that devastating hybrid hook/uppercut, there was no real going back. He showed brief glimpses of the old style at times (versus Tommy Morrison, Tyson 2) but quickly reverted back to that lazy, plodding style. I think he fell in love with his newfound power at one point and simply did not care to expend the effort or energy of his former style. If he mixed both styles together at certain points he may have been more successful.
Awesome footage. Haven't seen it in a while. Thanks for posting!! Ruddock would cause problems for Holmes. That doesn't mean I think he wins.
