Could Ruddock do what many failed at ,and ko the former middle weight? Or does Lights out find the Chin of Razor first ?
My gut says Ruddock. Toney proved he could stand up to an A class heavyweight puncher like Sam Peter, but Ruddock is probably about equally powerful and has a better jab, longer reach, is faster, and just generally more skilled than Peter. This might be a bridge too far for Toney.
Toney gets hit like never before. I see Ruddock connecting with the smash one to many times. Razor by.late rounds tko.
Toney way too smart in there to get hit with a punch this guy telegraphs. All you had to do was go to Ruddock fights live. It was so easy to see what he was going to do in there. A see Dick and Jane kindergarten book to read. He was telegraphing from the instant he dug his toes into the mat. Next, he'd dip way way to the left. Then, he'd launch the hook of his. Toney will not be standing there waiting to get hit. He'll do the same job on this guy he did to Holyfield and be a half step away and peppering. He won't miss anything with that Ruddock defense and Ruddock will throw his customary 20 punches a round and land about 5.
I think Zadfrak ended the thread. Roy Jones struggled to hit Toney flush. By the time Ruddock swung his telegraphed swipes James would have had a cigar, a glass of wine and a chat to his wife before watching it sail past his head by 6 feet.
Yeah the thing is ruddocks smash can come from underneath as an uppercut, from the side as a hook or at 45° and because the punch was so powerful the second he loads up most fighters will be forced to guess which angle it comes from. Ruddock often feinted it and looked at his opponents defensive reaction. if the opponent seemed to expect it from underneath he would throw it as a hook and the opponent would react the wrong way, never see the shot and go to sleep. He also used an extended left hand to obstruct his opponents vision making it evenharder.obviously it didn't work against Lewis who had even longer reach. But I don't see how toney gets to him, especially if he comes in heavy.
Yup. Incredible athletic potential. Either he was the most stubborn fighter of all time or his trainers weren't worth a damn. He was just too in love with that left hook. It was never gonna work against rangy guys like Lewis who can hit him without entering the "danger range" of the smash
He was still better than most of the division even using questionable tactics. He completely outclassed Phil Jackson before the Lewis fight and did use his jab if I remember correctly. I’m talking about him vanishing after the Lewis fight. He could’ve fought a who’s who of the division and had decent results from 93-96 but I guess his head wasn’t in it since he earned plenty.
Jesus what an horrible predictions lol. Ruddock did not hit harder than sam peter. The toney that schooled old evander would beat ruddock easy
