Damn i forgot about this fight, this was one serious KO right here. Razor ruddock was a great fighter, i personaly think he left his best days in the ring after the tyson fights, he has said in interviews that both him and mike were never the same after the two wars they had, any way this is a thing of beauty against a decent fighter in dokes [yt]kZpskmu_k4M[/yt]
Man thats a brutal punch, pity ruddock never really did what he looked like he was going to do around that timt, he had a lot going for him or so it seemed.
I remember around that time Razor had been an established heavyweight but was never talked about as a title threat. Tyson had beaten almost everyone in the title queue and was running out of opponents fast.. he had just got rid of Spinks and Carl Williams, and when Tyson boxed Razor began to appear on his undercard against some tough old names bashing them up, he beat Reggie Gross on the Tyson Spinks card and had gone through the likes of Smith and Weaver just previously, then the Return of Boxing to MSG brought the fighters Mike Tyson was looking to face in any future match up.. Tyson had actually started some strange negotiation to face both Douglas and Ruddock on the same night in seperate bouts in Sky Dome Toronto Canada as he was fast running out of credible opposition.. Ruddock faced Dokes on a card billed on TV as the men Tyson is avoiding (which in all honesty wasn't true at all) Dokes was on a very good comeback roll , he was being managed by Miami veteran Marty Cohen , a man who looked upon Dokes like a son, he was 91 years old and was steering Dokes into a great place to fight in some major fights, he had just beaten Wesley Watson, James Pritchard and KP Porter. Dokes had a great chin and Rudock was making his first network Tv headline feature.. I remember seeing the fight live and Dokes / Ruddock was very much an audition for a future Tyson match, It was looking more in favour of Dokes until a relaxed Ruddock Exploded into life with that smash , bashing Dokes into the corner before unleashing that legendary barrage of shots that would leave Dokes unconcious for 7 minutes out cold.. I can hear Gil Clancy now doing commentary saying "Thats the best young heavyweight prospect i have seen in years" Rudock never got a shot at a major title to this day and the early career loss to Dave Jaco in Halifax Nova scotia always remains an enigma to me, Wrong place wrong time, by the time he was primed to meet TYson he had just had his wings clipped by Douglas in Japan and he had to contend with Tyson with no belts at stake twice in a row , then came to Britain in 92 to meet another tough charge in Lennox Lewis again with no belts at stake, although Lewis was handed the title out of the ring a few months later on the strength of his win over Ruddock due to Bowe throwing the WBC belt in the trash, to escape a meeting with Lennox.
