Who are you picking between these two? Both at their best My money would be on Mercer to probably outwork Ruddock. Thoughts?
certainly plausible. Mercer's chin deserves the benefit of the doubt here, so I wouldn't bank on Razor scoring a KO or stoppage. He'd have to beat Ray on the cards and if this turns into an inside brawl, I think Mercer is probably getting the better of it. I actually think the early rendition of Ruddock who boxed against Mike Weaver rather than being hell bent on stopping his opponents would have had a better chance in this match.
I think Mercer overall has the better 'skillset', Ruddock had it all but relied too much on that left. It would similar to the Tyson fiughts but much more competitive, with one guy (Mercer) pretty much in charge but Ruddock making him work for it
Too bad these guys never fought, if they would have fought back in 91, when they were both at their best it's 50/50, if Ruddock chooses to box then he wins, but he's not the brightest guy so he would probably go in there and take the other guys head off and that will lead to his downfall.. I lean more towards Ray, but he wasn't consistent either, if these guys fought 6 times it would be 3-3..
Ruddock gets off to an early lead, landing some huge eye catching shots. Mercer buckles slightly but survives and begins to gain ground around the third. By the end Mercer is clubbing him around the verge of a stoppage, unable to score the finishing touches.
mercer lost and then barely squeked by ruddocks sparring partner in jesse ferguson so the ruddock that fought bonecrusher/odum/dokes / and 2 tyson fights beats mercer via dec
Mercer by decision probably with a couple of KDs due to Ruddock`s lack of balance. Ray Mercer developed a pretty nice jab and used it after his loss to Larry Holmes. Ray`s chin would get him through on the few big shots Razor would connect with.
Ruddock could box... Razor in his pomp is a level above the honest Mercer; Ruddock on points, pretty comfortably.
could happen maybe if Ruddock realises Mercer isn't quite the opponent Tyson was maybe he might alter his gane
Interesting fight. Would've loved to see this play out in the early 90's. I actually think Ruddock would be more active in there while landing the more telling blows. I keep seeing the Mercer-Cooper fight in my head but that's a green Mercer in there. I'll take Ruddock on points with Mercer coming on strong.
Thats how i feel, Mercer hits nowhere near as hard as Tyson or even Lewis, this might encourage Ruddock to play a much more active role in the fight and maybe bring out the best in him. Its hard to gauge how good a guy is when hes getting the **** kicked out of him by someone like Tyson, but Ruddock did stand his ground. He is the only guy who stood toe to toe with Tyson and traded blows ala Lyle/Foreman, Ike/Tua Hes also only one of three guys who got up from a Tyson KD and carried on fighting.
