A tough journeyman. Price said he went for Barro and paid the price.

Muangsurin starched him inside a round on his debut :yikes

Saw him fight twice, the Price fight (the stoppage win) and the Heair fight. The Heair fight was very entertaining and a good, hard fight. Heair claimed ring rust and I will admit he had a bit of a roll around his waist. He fought back so hard after giving away too many of the earlier rounds and came close to decking Rudy around the 9th and 10th, but Rudy fought back with what he had left to see it to the end and take the decision. Good fight.

Shame no footage of those bouts exist.

Barro was a tough contender. Insane that Muangsurin wasted him in his debut.

Muangsurin had tried out as an 'international boxer' at the South East Games (I think) where he claimed Gold in the 140lb class. There is some footage of him clubbing one of these amateur opponents down.

With his pedigree as a Raja champ, his amateur success and popularity, I can see why they pushed him fast (as well as Saensak already having mileage on the clock) but seeing how Barro was lighting the Thai up early it was almost a big mistake.

The Thai's already knew what wenwere yet to find out: Muangsurin had some of the most naturally heavy hands the weight has ever seen and his chin was made out of granite.

Muangsurin never sat down between rounds. If you watch the 15 of his rematch with another ranked contender, Tetsuo 'Lion' Furuyama (who had taken Cervantes the championship distance) you will see, Muangsurin always stands in his corner between rounds. (Saensak had wiped the floor with the Jap' in his second pro bout :yikes)

A freakishly tough natural fighter, and usually with a smile on his face :)

From what I know of Fernandez, Barro would've beaten him BTW. A solid Euro-level operator by today's standards, and not those of the 70s, from what I can gather, a paper champion in every sense of the term.

Sounds like my kind of fighter!

Luckily there are few Muangsurin fights on youtube.

What fights do you suggest to watch?

I will warn you: he was one awkward caveman. He would've mashed Valero up worse than Valero did to himself.

    For power and chin

    Vs Barro
    Vs Guts
    Vs Lookutang

    For chin
    Vs Sang-Hyun Kim
    Vs Hearns

The second Furuyama fight is on there, silent, but worth a watch if you like that sorta' thing. If ANYONE knows of anyone who has this fight with audio, please send me a PM or let me know on here, would really appreciate it.

    Rudy Barro,,,,,,,,

The 'Wild Philippine' from Stockton, California.

Rudy usually went 'all-out' during the first 'two' rounds, to try and catch his
opponent cold or test his chin (ie; Andy Price).

Though he did not have a 'big punch', that never stopped him from trying to
    take his opponent out.

On his trip to Bangkok, Thailand in early-November 1974,,,,,,,,,he tried to pull
that same attack on Saensak Muangsurin, and he did land a few 'wild shots'
that drove the Thai fighter back,,,,,,,,

But that one-punch counter right hook,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Boom,,,,,,,at 0:50 of the "First Round'.

Does anyone know the arena that the Muangsurin vs. Barro bout was held.

Was it Lumpinee Stadium Indoor Arena,,,,,,,because there looked to be about 9500+
    fans there.

Saensak Muangsurin vs #4 Rudy Barro

    Saturday Night, November 16, 1974

Cannot find any other bouts on the card.

It must have been a single-bout venue.

    For the $64,000 Question,,,,,,,,after Knocking-out the #4 WBC Light-Welterweight,
what did the WBC rank Saensak Muangsurin in the Councils next ratings issue in December 1974....????

Remember,,,,,,,, Saensak was 1-0-0 (1 KO).....Total length of his Professional Career.....0:50 seconds.

    Below; Rudy Barro

Full fight is on there...this is just the end. The Thai had taken an absolute battering early, but then came back into it....sloppily. Then he got caught with an absolute peach.....and ended on his feet :yikes
