    Flea Man,,,,,,,,,,,,

    The new stadium was built in 1998..

    The original Hua Mark Stadium Indoor Arena (formerly Kittikachorn Indoor Stadium) was also used for the 1966 Asian Games.

    Capacity information,,,,,,,,somewhat sketchy,,,,,,,,,9500 looks like the proper number.

    I think 3 or 4....but that is a complete guess! He had to beat Furuyama to get his shot (won the title in three fights)

    Rudy Barro,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    'Have Gloves, Will Travel'

    Following the disaster 'First Round 0:50 (L KO1) loss to Saensak Muangsurin,
    Rudy had a rough-run from January 1975 thru December 1976.

    A total of 13-bouts, with 9 losses (3 by Knock-out) and with only 4 wins.

    Losses to the following;
    * Alfonso Frazer
    * Hector Thompson
    * Esteban De Jesus
    * Andy Price
    * Rudy Hernandez
    * Monroe Brooks
    * Leroy Haley
    * Pete Ranzany

    That is one hell of an opponents list for anyone,,,,,,

    He travelled to the likes of;
    * Philippines
    * Panama
    * Austrailia
    * Puerto Rico
    * Los Angeles
    * Stockton
    * Hawaii
    * Las Vegas

    He must have built up a ton of 'frequent flyer miles'.

    Muangsurin - Monroe Brooks sounds like a good fight.

    Both fighters going down, last round stoppage.

    Has anybody seen it?

    Don't get me started Lester! :fire

    It's one of the great 'lost' fights, with two guaranteed exciting fighters.

    I have no doubt that this is the fight that took the Thai's prime. I have an article from a year later where Brooks claims he had anema (spelling? And no I don't mean enema :lol:) but the fight in Chang Mai was a war either way.

    SENOR: what do you know of Francisco 'The Mad Bull' Moreno of Venezuela who challenged Saensak? He was ranked no.8 by the WBC at the time if my memory serves me correct. Obviously an incomplete record on boxrec, it was sponsored by Coca Cola and billed as 'The Fight To The Death' in Thailand. Muslim extremists threatened to kidnap the boxers before the fight! Muangsurin's popularity was used to combat the threat, with the Thai Champion releasing a statement telling the terrorists to knock it off :lol:

    'The Fight to the Death'

    'SAB' Saensak Muangsurin vs. Franciso 'The Mad Bull' Moreno

    WBC Super Lightweight Champion versus #8 Challenger.

    Francisco 'The Mad Bull' Moreno of Venezuela.

    Upon entering the ring versus *Saensak Muangsurin, the 25 year-old Franciso Moreno had a
    record of 28-4-0 (13 KO's).

    Franciso a 5' 8" stylish-boxer from Venezuela, had a snappy left jab and a quick but light-power right hand.
    His style was much like (Fitzroy Guissepi of Trinidad). 'The Mad Bull' had a good defense, and could
    take a heavy-punch............ His strength; fast hands,,,,,,,,His weakness; he was not a big puncher.

    Born; March 1, 1953

    His manager,,,,,,,,,,,,,Carlos Estas was connected to the WBC President, Jose Sulaiman.

    Turned professional in September 1973 (age 20 1/2).

    Francisco popped in a few good wins in late-1973 and early-1974.

    Gets to 8-0-0 (3 KO's).

    April 1974 loses an 8-Round Decision to Johnny Garcia, in Caracas, Venezuela.

    Rebounds, and wins his next '6' bouts (3 KO's) over the next 12-months.

    Gets to 14-1-0 (6 KO's), and is offered an interesting bout in Spain.

    June 6, 1975 fought WBC Light-Welterweight Champion, Perico Fernandez in a
    10-Round 'non-title' fight in Valencia, Spain.

    Fought well, but was out-pointed over 10-Rounds.

    Dropped to 14-2-0.

    Went 6-0-0 (2 KO's) from June 1975 thru January 1977.

    Was now 20-2-0 (8 KO's), and earned a #16 WBC Light-Welterweight ranking.

    February 1977, was Disqualified (L Disq. 7) to Eleazor Blanco 14-3-2 (3 KO's) in a 'foul-filled bout' in Venezuela.

    Dropped to 20-3-0 (9 KO's).

    Bounced back, and defeated Eleazor Blanco 'twice by 10-Round Decision, in 'back-to-back' fights.

    In June 1977,,,,,lost a 'hairline decision' (L Dec 10) to #10 WBA Light-Welterweight Pedro Rojas 18-0-0 (9 KO's)

    Dropped to 22-4-0.

    Note: 16-months later {October 1978} the undefeated Pedro Rojas would get Knocked-out ( L KO 1) to Thomas Hearns.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Won '2' more bouts in the summer of 1977, and improved to 24-4-0 (10 KO's).

    Scored a 'big upset' on September 25, 1977, when he defeated (W Dec 10) #8 WBC Light-Welterweight
    Carlos Omar 'El Sapo' Alvarez of Uruguay, who had a record 25-1-2 (7 KO's), and who was scheduled to get a shot at the WBC
    Light-Welterweight Championship.

    Improved to 25-4-0 (10 KO's),,,,,,,,,and earned a 'Top 10' rating from the WBC.

    Francisco Moreno won 'three' more bouts over 'cannon-fodders';
    * November 1977 (KO 4) over.. Omar Ruiz,
    * January 1978 (KO 3) over.... Jorge Pascual
    * February 1978 (KO 3) over... Antonio Baez.

    That got him to 28-4-0 (13 KO's), and a #8 WBC ranking.

    Signed to fight Saensak Muangsurin on April 8, 1978, in Haadyai, Thailand for WBC Super-Lightweight Championship.

    Amazing. Thank you so much, that is a massive help to me. Seen the picture before but could never find out much about the guy.

    aLSO sab (rING SAID IT MEANT 'CHEEKY BOY') SEEMS WRONG...HAVE ASKED SOME KNOWLEDGABLE tHAI TYPES AND THEY SAY IT MEANS MORE LIKE (OOPS CAPS LOCK) 'smelly', which doesn't seem a likely nickname for Saensak.

    Flea Man,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    What was Saensak Muangsirin's....... 'Muay Thai' fight record,,,,,,,,,,,??????

    He was by no means,,,,,,,,,,,,,,really a 'two-bout' professional when he won the
    WBC Super-Lightweight Championship,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    On Francisco 'The Mad Bull' Moreno........"El Furioso de Toro"

    Following the loss (LKO 13) to Saensak Muangsurin, he bounced back with a Decision win
    in October 1978 (W Dec 10) over #12 WBA Light-Welterweight, Zenon Silgado 18-2-2 (16 KO's).

    '2' more wins in early-1979 put "The Mad Bull' back in the Light-Welterweight Championship hunt, as
    he was ranked #9 WBA Light-Welterweight, as he improved to 30-5-0 (13 KO's).

    On March 30, 1979 - he was held to a Draw (Draw 10) by Columbian, Reinaldo Chico - but that 'minor belmish'
    did not affect his WBA ranking.

    Franciso Moreno was then offered a bout with WBA Light-Welterweight Champion, *Antonio Cervantes,
    for May 1979, and in Columbia,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but that bout never went through.

    Francisco went 5-0-1 (2 KO's) in his last '5' bouts, and retired in December 1980.

    Career Record: 35-5-2 (15 KO's).
