He was a light heavyweight from the Netherlands who's career spanned from 1972 to 1984. During that period he compiled a record of 43-2-2-30 and held the EBU European title for quite some time. He acquired two draws which he later cleared up in rematches. His only defeats were to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in a WBA title fight and to the undefeated Richard Caramanolis when Rudy was in the last fight of his career at age 36. Does anyone know anything about koopmans they'd like to share or have any fight stories?
There are at least two or three Koopmans fights on youtube. Apparently he worked for a while as bodyguard for a notorious landlord Bertus Luske, who was known to use strongarm methods and bulldozed property occupied by squatters. I don't think Koopmans was party to those types of actions, if he worked fo Luske I'd imagine he was just a bodyguard. Luske was shot dead in 2003 in a gangland killing I think anyway, so I guess he needed more bodyguards.

Oh come on - He ran away from Mustafa Muhammad faster than Ingemar Johansson ran away from Ed. Sanders. I don´t say that Koopman was not a competent boxer, but he totally froze in that fight. The referee was only to happy to have the fight stopped on injury, so he did not have to disq. Koopman for not trying. "Boxing News" compared Koopman to the cartoon figure "Road Runner" running around Muhammad saying "wewe" or something of that sort.

Met glanzende foto’s. En met een harde kaft, en dan ook meteen wat groter. Simpelweg omdat ik dacht dat een bokser als Rudy Koopmans een deftiger boek verdiende dan een eenvoudige pocket. Maar dit is het enige. Een pocket waarin de foto’s ofwel te klein ofwel te vaag zijn afgedrukt. Op de voorkant een bezwete Rudy. Niet echt een flatteuze foto. Knap is dat, om van zo’n mooie man juist die ene foto te kiezen. Tot zover de kritiek. Want ik ben blij dat er twee schrijvers zijn geweest die de tijd hebben willen spenderen om dit boek te schrijven. Het leest als een trein, en dat betekent dat er lang aan gewerkt is. Ook met Rudy zelf. Toen ik hem er een keer naar vroeg, vertelde hij iets over zijn medewerking. Om er in dezelfde adem aan toe te voegen, dat er geen tweede boek komt. Geen zin in. Hier staat het al in, dat wil dus zeggen, de waarheid volgens Rudy Koopmans.
