Nisse Saurland tells that a matchup between former european champion Rudy "hardhitter" Markussen and WBA's paper champion Brian Magee is possible in january..
Rudy Markussen beated a corpse by KO in the 1st round last weekend, after about 9 months lay off from a neck injury.
He should get another fight in November, and then fight Magee in January.
Both guys is veterans in their mid 30's, both with decent ring generalship and good punching power... Could be a comptetive matchup between two euro level Fighters, i will favor Magee so far, he has been more active and has had far better competetion the last few years..

Magee is a massive favorite at this point.

4 years ago I would have Markussen as clear favorite.

I have never been a fan of Magee but in fairness he does have a fair resume.
Markussen is a fighter who I always felt could have gone further.
I have always felt that Magee cant take a big punch and is a bit slow, but with Markussen not having fought anyone of real note in a while you would have to favour Magee, but I would be rooting for Markussen and wouldnt be shocked if Markussen KOd Magee.

How come Markussen/Kessler/Larsen never had fights between them all?
    Always wondered this

They where all fighters under the same promotor, but basically a fight between them has never really been possible due to promotional fall-outs and injuries.

I reckon a Larsen-Markussen fight is possible still, but not very likely as it is.

I guess the promoter didnt want to gamble 3 world class SMWs against each other and keep all at their best.

I thought Larsen and Markussen would have become world champs (both won European titles I believe).
I will have to rewatch their respective fights with Ottke (havent seen either for years).
There were other fighters who became SMW champs and I would have favoured Larsen and Markussen. Fighters like Catley, Lucas, Thobela, Malinga,

There has been talk about it...
Larsen and Markussen could have been a good fight..
They are not in Kessler's league, even though there has been alot of talk about a fight between Kessler and Larsen...

Would have been great for Danish boxing though I expect.
Sure Kessler is above those guys now, but I was thinking more when Kessler was coming up and edging into world class, more than when he was a world champ

Yeah, but to be fair it was never really possible due to the reasons I mentioned.

I'm quite sure I never watched those Ottke fights more than once. I had the Larsen fight closer than the Markussen fight even though Markussen had Ottke down once or twice.

Yes that trio was exceptionnel for such a small country as Denmark.

    They could have.

Imo. Larsen was Stieglitz level. Markussen Balzay level.

But both would have lost to Kessler at any point in their careers.

Larsen was pretty much seen as equal to Kessler, but he was unfortunate with ill-timed injuries and an exhaustive legal battle with Team Palle.

Yeah I have to agree, they were very good and all around at the same time.
Britain has been fortunate in the SMW division over the last 20 odd years on and off.
We had Benn, Eubank and Collins who all fought

We had Calzaghe, Woodhall, Reid, Catley who all became world champs and some fought each other and Starie who was world rated and probably above Catley

Now there is Froch who didnt have as much competition as the groups above but did get to fight a faded Reid and Magee mentioned on this thread
Steiglitz and Balzsay level are both pretty decent levels

    Yes, they are.

In other eras they could be champs for quite a while. Even in Calzaghe and Ottke's era because they were both not interested in unifying. So like Lucas, Catley etc they could have become champs. Especially Stieglitz could have reigned for quite a period.
