That was a good one, PLUS I got it before I saw your hints. I love the movies too, BUT I am not an expert of all the names like you.
As someone else posted, Flynn in fact seems to have been a leftist in politics. Politics aside, off his autobiography, Flynn fell somewhat short of sainthood, though. And I saw an interview with Olivia DeHavilland in which she mentioned that she was crazy about him until he put a dead snake in her panties. That derailed the love affair for a couple of years, although Olivia implied that the snake bit was eventually forgotten and things heated up again between them.
We should have twigged when you said he was a "good egg".Thats how "Sean Thornton" describes him to the Reverend.atsch
How did i not get that? especially with your great cryptic clue 'he was a good egg'. Does Roper get a credit in the film?
No. He didn't. The complete cast lists are given at the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB). I am pleased someone picked up on the "good egg" clue.
Did Roper star in a film with Flynn as well? I recall reading about when Flynn portrayed Jim Corbett,he sparred with an ex-boxer (whose name I can't recall but it could well have been Jack Roper) who flattened Errol twice before laying him out cold. It was recounted in his autobiography.
Roper played in Gentleman Jim with Errol Flynn. He played Donaldson. Freddie Steele also played one of the referees and Frank Moran played a small part too.
