I agree that he shouldn’t be out in this position but that’s not a very fair description still. He is an Olympic medalist and beat a lot of very good pros in pro style fights in the World Series of Boxing.
Amateurs don’t count. His pedigree is fine but that has nothing to do with what he has accomplished as a professional. His only win of note was over a well-past-it Eric Molina. Nobody of note wants to take the B-side of a purse bid (that his own promoter doesn’t want to bid apparently) so there’s no interest in fighting him. It’s a business. He brings nothing to the table.
IBF badly needs to change the SPLIT that is offered for these fights No top boxer in his right mind wants to fight for peanuts Someone bring some real $$$$$'s to the table and make this fight happen That is the real reason behind this fiasco
Gassiev is still injured, so no harm done there. Not sure why Ruiz wouldn't want a shot at a mandatory, but if he fights Parker instead, he gets a pass. Bring on Zhang!
Amateurs clearly do count because the WBO and IBF best positioned are Olympic medalists. They don't count to you and many American fans, but they count to the people who run boxing. He brings a 100% certainty that you will get a world title shot if you beat him. If you believe you can beat him, he is the 100% best option to fight for Gassiev and Ruiz. In reality though they clearly don't believe they can beat him at the moment.
Yeah that’s great logic. Fight Parker but not an unproven prospect for a guaranteed shot at whomever has the IBF belt(Which could be a unified or undisputed champion).. Sick of these businessmen in the “glamour divisions” (LW, WW, MW and HW.) At least the LHWs are fighting outside of Bivol..
No, he doesn’t bring the biggest purse. That’s why they’re saying no. And how many years must one wait for this title shot if you win? And against whom? And for how much? Nobody’s scared of Flip Hamburgers. It’s just a ridiculous game nobody wants to play and the IBF look bad for handing him something he in no way has earned.
Demsey McKean is huge, the same height as Hrgovic, with all that he is undefeated, it would be an interesting fight...
Hrgovic has the right to the bigger share but that does not mean he will demand it. If fighters are going to turn him down over money they should at least see if he is willing to let go of the majority share. Parker, Ruiz et. al. are not interested in Hrgovic regardless of splits because they won't get enough money even if they were to get the lion's share. Fighting Hrgovic for < $750,000 is not appealing to somebody like Parker because he can easily get over a million elsewhere.
If they accept being part of the bid, they have to accept their (low) percentage. That’s what’s on offer here. Why hasn’t Flip’s promoter just tried to offer one of those guys what they’re worth and see if they’ll accept it? This is a shakedown to get someone with big-money backing to accept and then put in a winning bid to put money in the Hamburglar’s pocket (or his management’s, more likely). Ninety percent tor more of the time a guy with a resume as thin as being handed an eliminator (much less as the A-side of the purse) would be ridiculed and criticized, but Captain Caveman here has a fan club so it’s OK. (Case in point, Dominic Breazeale beats Eric Molina and gets a title shot and people were ready to riot, but Burger Boy beats an Eric Molina on his last legs who has already been stopped by Breazeale and a few people on this forum are acting like Flipper somehow earned this. SMFH.)
