Ruiz has always had respect, he has some good names on his resume and been Americas best HW for a long time. But against Haye he really showed how tough & brave he is. Ruiz didnt come to lay down and had a real go, but was facing elite competition
having a tremendous heart and having no business in the ring are 2 different things. that one sided beatdown did nothing but put off the real matches people want to see. ruiz had no business in there....funny how he has never been a mandatory for an IBF or WBC belt....but this was his 12th or 13 fight for a WBA title
That's right. I admire Ruiz for the fact that despite his limited talent he's made quite a career through hard training, determination and fighting spirit.
...Yap! Absolutely! He kept getting up too. He rehabilitated himself in my eyes with that performance.
Exactly. But I think it's time to hang em up. Not because he can't fight, but because he can't be a champion at HW in the near future. If he can't beat Haye, he has no chance at Wlad. Possibly Vitali, but would probably get TKO'ed. Either way, there is nothing worthwhile for him to accomplish in the HW division, and I don't think he can cut down to Cruiser.
THE TRUTH.Am I missing something here,or is it my imagination that the least compelling and accomplished heavyweight "champion" in recent history(oops, maybe Valuev)-a guy that couldn't even get a TV fight in the US for the past several years due to his cheating and boring style(as well as being a "mandatory" for the WBA "title" despite going 3-3 in his last 6 before the Haye fight,I mean who the **** is this guy blowing?)deserves respect even though the majority of most American boxing fans wouldn't even turn the TV on to watch him because of the countless times that he's fought like a circus hugging bear?WTF????Newsflash:Ruiz has NEVER been that good and he's robbed fight fans and his opponents for a long ****ing time.
Ruiz is a strange one to me. I hated his bull**** faking in the ring. I hated his ****ing trainer even more. But, underneath it all, I always kind of thought at least he's giving it everything. Some of the other fighters that have fought Vitaly and Wlad lately can't say the same thing. The brothers would have demolishe Ruiz in a similar fashion. But he would have tried and toughed it out until he was stopped. Not stopped fighting (hugging...) just to see out the 12.
All the Ruiz haters have gone all gushy with love and warmth for ol' huggy bear since he got his ass thrashed the other night...amazing.
He earned a lot of respect off me after the other night. A great effort from a true warrior. I think he should retire now with his head held high knowing he made the most of his ability and gave it everything he had in his final fight.
Although I don't think Ruiz earned to be in that ring and the guy never had my respect, I changed my mind on saturday. He was the one going after Haye, even when getting pummeled and kept on coming. I'm sure without the rabbit punch KD's he could have lasted the full 12, and even with he probably could have. Props for the man I hated troughout his entire career. But now he has to retire.
To say Ruiz has no skills is not true. He has a decent jab and good right hand, he beat fighters such as Rahman, Holyfield, Oqeundo, Golota, Valuev (IMO). He is not on the level of a Toney, Jones or Haye, that is for sure.
I respected him for his toughnes and fighting everybody out there. But after Haye fight I like him even more, especially as a man.
