I've always respected Ruiz. I never enjoyed his fights and I wasn't a fan of him, his ugly fighting style, or his crying antics. But he was a tough guy who worked himself into a top ten contender for a decade. He fought one top guy after another and won a handful of those fights as well. Having said that I'm glad Haye, hopefully, put an end to Ruiz's title challenging days. Ruiz should fight a smaller and winnable fight or two at home and call it a day. He's had a solid career.
If he had fought like that his entire career, he'd have a lot more respect overall, but he probably also wouldn't be a two-time titlist. I have respect for his performance, but he looked like a gigantic version of David Diaz in there.
I've always been a Ruiz fan. Like him or not, I NEVER have had to question whether Ruiz's next opponent would be against a top 10 fighter.
