Ruiz still thinks he can just show up and he will win. They guy just has no discipline at all. The guy had the biggest golden opportunity with the Mexican fan base and he ate it away. Waste of talent and opportunity.
As a heavyweight-exclusive fan of boxing, I never thought Mexicans belonged in this sport. Some people think that's bigoted and whatever but damn. See.
Is anyone shocked? He's never been fully committed to the sport, just another in a long line of lazy, ill disciplined US based heavyweight who can't keep his weight below morbidly obese.
IMHO the more serious part of Ruiz's career is over. But... He was the world HW champion. He took off "zero" AJ. The first, and now the only one, knocked out AJ. He beat AJ in a much more attractive way than Usyk.
Love handle action going on there on hips, is definitely carrying a good 20lbs over his normal weight here. He still probably gets the job done against Miller even in that state.
Never forget AJ lost to this. It's hard to find a worse loss from HW 'star' of that level. Also, Ruiz isn't the first Mexican HW champion, there has never been a Mexican HW champion. Ruiz is a US citizen. That's why he became obese enough to become a HW.
80's were plagued by drug epidemic in the lower echelons of society and Don King on top of that. Andy is plagued by Tacos.
Ruiz was 30 at the time. He could have dedicated himself for say 3 years, had 5 fights or so and just retired for good. The golden moment was there, even after the Joshua rematch. He had all the opportunities in the world and could have made a lot of money.
I'm still salty they drugged AJ to manufacture this guy as the "hw champion" just to boost the body positivity narrative.
