That's 5 pounds lighter than against Chagaev. He redeemed himself a bit against Chagaev, i think. He lost a competitive fight but basically they stood toe to toe for the first 8 rounds. Pretty entertaining fight. I think a fight with McCline will be very boring though. Both have solid jaws and although McCline can hit, he lacks in stamina and aggression often, you can be pretty sure this one goes the distance.

It's easy to criticize Ruiz - I'll be happy to - but one thing he's got going over more talented fellow HWs is his dedication.

He doesn't get fat, doesn't have to boil down to get back into shape, isn't concerned with flashing wads of money and generally ****ing around. If David Tua had even half the determination Ruiz does, he would've been a champion by now.

Having said all that, I hope McCline knocks him out.

It is true. While his work is ugly, Ruiz's work ethic is superior to most of the other top heavys, except for Wlad. Maybe Johhny should retire and reinvent himself as a motivational trainer for all the pudgy Russians, and big fatsos like Toney and Peter.

Someone else posted it in the Peter vs Maskaev weigh in thread. McCline was his usual 268lbs.

Ruiz wins a lifetime achievement award for terrible fights, but actually lately he's been much more entertaining. His recent performances have been as exciting as those of many other HWs, mostly -- as has been pointed out -- because he's very consistent and now is willing to trade a bit.

Very true. Ruiz has his faults, but being lazy isn't one of them.

Umm yea....people so easily forget. This guy gave us the shittiest/most BORING fights EVER for YEARS. Yea yea....he never backed down from anyone but ....he was unwatchable. I don't forget how much I hated him when he was the "Champ". No, I haven't seen his more recent fights when he supposidly had a more fan friendly/watchable style but honestly, I could care less. Those 2 fights don't make up for years of being a shitty worthless titleholder. I sincerely hope McCline KTFOs him. Unfortunately...this probably will not happen. I see Ruiz winning.

I can't stand some of these mediocrities who never were's hanging around the sport for so long. I wish guys like Chris Byrd, Larry Donald, John Ruiz, Oliver McCall, Hasim Rahman etc would just retire and stay retired already.
