Decent idea, but the judges would have to be blind from watching all other rounds or they would be swayed by earlier action.
Wladimir Klitschko got knocked down 3 times against Samuel Peter and still won by UD, so he should've lost? Fights are scored round by round.
In light of this fight I think the rules are as they should be, otherwise the suggestions I would make would favor a particular fighter in this situation. With regards to last nights fight I thought it was close and either could have taken it. However this is what I have believed for a while. I think the first 2-3 rounds should be worth the least points in the fight because they are usually feeler out rounds. The championship rounds should be worth more so that if a fighter is coasting they still have to fight to win the fight. It also rewards the fighter who has the most endurance and made the most adjustments to dominate the later rounds. Knock downs should count the same as they do now.
Pacquiao vs JMM I was scored correctly the first time. JMM dominated the rest of the fight. Early KD's shouldn't determine the fight. Especially as some KD's are really just flash KD's or off balance KD's, where as some definitely come from working the opponent over throughout the fight.
There should be no post fight interviews in the ring. All interviews should be done in the fighters dressing room. There should be a fine for whining in public.
Anyone remember the scoring used in boxing in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics? IIRC, the judges will award a point for a clean shot that connected and a number of judges must push a button within a second of each other. The problem was judges didn't pay much attention to jabs and body shots.
