    Pretty much spot in your assessment especially with HBO pushing Sergey, I love GGG but his record and his persona don't touch the Krusher's. As far as the GGG-Lemieux PPV goes I'm really looking forward to it, in spite of it being a huge mismatch and probably ending early with the obvious outcome, but that may have something to do with the fact that I'm a huge fan of GGG and oddly enough a long time big fan of David's so I'm biased as hell.

    Agreed. Somewhere along the way they started passing off non-super fights as PPV events at superfight prices. Now it's commonplace.

    And I get that fans of GGG and fans of Lemieux (or in your case, fans of both) will want to buy the fight.

    One thing I never mentioned in the video is I don't blame anybody for buying any of those fights or none of those fights. I just am not big on buying these. But who knows? When fight night comes along (were it not for work obligations that will prevent from getting these), I may have changed my tune.

    How much ARE they charging for Mosley-Mayorga? Is it $50? That might be the only one I'm actually around and able to watch.

    I may buy all three but I will definitely buy the last two, the Berto-Mayweather PPV has two great matches on the undercard and being a Gonzalez-Viloria fan as well I'm loving the undercard of GGG-Lemieux and the prospect of Ward fighting on the Canelo-Cotto card might even appeal to you a little, regardless I'm definitely gonna buy that one, but I'm a crackpot who usually buys most PPV's I'm one of those rare people now days that still actually likes to watch stuff like mini events on Television. Also I'm not destitute but that's way too much money for people to have to shell out back to back to back.


    But PPV's dying out would be for the best though, I'd prefer HBO and Showtime holding these huge cards on their channels it'll suck more buyers in to pay for their channels and they can turn an even bigger profit and they can more easily finance shows like GOT and Twin Peaks with relative ease. But that way the evil promoters won't make nearly as much, and that's why PPV will last for quite a while longer, or at least they'll keep trying.

    Definitely buying Canelo/Cotto. Not buying GGG/Lemieux ...cause I'll be there ;) My fam and friends are excited to buy and watch it though. Not buying May/Berto. I want to because I love seeing Mayweather fight but enough is enough and this pick of an opponent definitely draws the line for me.

    I am sure you are right about the relative sales of the PPV, I think the GGG fight does Ok though in large part because of the undercard. It would have been better if it wasnt PPV obviously, but even at 200k buys that's still twice the purse $$$ of a big HBO WCB card and the only way the fight could get made.

    Sadly, PPV wont be going away... the trend in all forms of entertainment, be it video games, TV shows, movies, is increased monetization with a smaller group of core fans. Largely, because there are just too many things to do. Getting massive numbers of people to do or watch anything is ever an increasing challenge. Unless HBO gains a couple hundred thousand subs that they know are primarily interested in boxing, don't expect their budget to grow any. Sadly.

    As far as why GGG over Kovalev, its because of ticket sales. Kovalev has the better boxing resume, but GGG sells tickets on both coasts , where Kovalev has a much harder time actually filling seats. Real demand, and PPV projections are based almost entirely on ticket sales as historically this is the most accurate predictor.

    On that note, Floyd-Berto looks like it is going to be a massive flop at PPV. Relatively speaking anyway, I mean it will still outsell GGG but probably not by as much as people think. I doubt it breaks 500k, though SHO will not be announcing the sales so honestly we will never know.

    Canelo-Cotto has 2 ethnic fanbases to draw on, and is a 50-50 fight so should obviously do the best of the 3 by a significant margin. Which will surprise no one.

    The only fight of the 3 that I feel is PPV worthy is the COtto-Canelo match.

    yep, you're right. but ggg nuthuggers will make it out to be that floyd/berto is a joke and lemieux is an ATG who didnt get outboxed by Alcine :lol:.

    Actually its pretty objective to point out that Lemieux is better now than he was a few years ago.

    Nonetheless, the strength of the GGG card is the solid UC. For a boxing fan, Ring/TBRB p4p#2 Gonzalez vs Flyweight Ring#3/TBRB#4 Viloria is also a significant fight and Johnson/O'Kane should be an entertaining bout of 160lb fringe contenders looking to move up the ladder.

    Great post.

    To add, Golovkin/Lemieux only need to make PPV buys in the really early 100K to break even. I think them doing better than that is pretty much a given.
