Yeah, I definitely didn't mean to say that Abraham and Dirrell was competitive. I didn't properly articulate myself, and rewatching that part, I can see that I disliked my choice of word almost at the exact moment the words were spoken.

What I think I was going for was the fact that Abraham still seemed to have a genuine chance to change the tide, and the outcome was still in doubt because of the way Abraham was coming on in the rounds leading up to the DQ.

    So fair point and criticism.

I do, however, disagree on Jones-Griffin. That was a competitive bout, even though Jones seemed to be figuring Griffin out and definitively had momentum on his side leading up to that DQ.

Had Lemieux not been able to continue, without question a DQ.

But Lemieux got up. So it's a moot point.

Perhaps Golovkin should have lost a point but we all know that wasn't going to happen and that's essentially a moot point as well.

Hope you watched to the end. Your post embedding the Bika-Mendy example inspired me to go forward with it.

I wonder, why do you keep ignoring the very obvious and important difference in that those incidents ended with a fighter knocked out, whereas the GGG-Lemieux did not?

    This !

I for one, am shocked and outraged at the blatant hom-ocidal pyromania evident in BE's post. :fire

Moreover, I am dismayed at the 'classist' tone of the message, a message that is dripping with vitriolic, anti-indigent sentiment.

I wish I knew the day and the hour that BE began to loathe the homeless !

I have defended the man when he has been ( occasionally ) derided on here for his unconventional stances on the great issues of our day.

But I swear, I had no idea of his more regrettable tendencies regarding the less fortunate, those for whom life's lustre has lessened.

You can rest assured that this correspondent shares none of the vile, vehement, vitriol that BE has venomously vented against these vagabond victims of vicissitude.

I hold myself in shame that we belong to the same species.

With regard to the OP's question, the correct answer is NO!

This is my first thought as well...

Would you agree with those saying he should have been deducted a point?

It was clearly a bad foul at the very least.

Definitely, I'd even be fine with 2 points deduction and rest as well. But that's about as far as I'd go with that particular foul. And possibly most others that are of similar manner, what I wonder is why after Kovalev-Cleverly fight there was no such discussion, and his foul was even worse from what I remember.

    Because this was PPV.

And because both his fans and haters have put so much stock in whining about him that both sides feel the need to represent the extremes of their argument.

To me this was way different than the Roy Jones DQ which was well deserved. As Roy landed not one but two shots after the opponent had taken a knee. The second punch he pulled back on and delivered with full force a full second after the initial knee was taken. The fight was also highly competitive which is a factor.
To me Triple G deserved to lose a point no more. Lemieux if he had been more seriously hurt should have been warranted extra time to recover as such is the case with a low blow. That may not be the by the book ruling but I think that would have been the pragmatic ruling of the judge's discretion.

I've never seen 2 points being deducted for a single violation, have you? They'd disqualify GGG if there was an actual injury.
