Ward was the LINEAL SMW champion during that time. Bumlovkin beating Ward @ a 164lb catchweight would have made him the LEGITIMATE champion @ SMW.

So, to answer your question, YES - they were asking for a SMW title shot @ 164lbs, Einstein. 164lbs is over the middleweight limit and within the super middleweight limit - so the fight would have been a contest in the super middleweight division, Genius. The LINEAL SMW title can change hands in a fight contested within the SMW limit, Lightening.
