Thanks Robney. And you're right. The way that 3rd knockdown followed that 2nd knockdown, I have a hard time believing any ref would allow something like that to continue in this day and age. And it's also difficult to imagine too many people getting up from that type of knockdown in any case. And you bring up an interesting point regarding the evolution of rules and how things have changed. It makes for some interesting speculation.
I have no idea why that fight wasn't waved off after the 5th knockdown. The first two were absolutely savage, in and of themselves.
Fair scoring, analysis and breakdown Rums. Would be great if we got Saunders (for all the marbles), Canelo (for the money and the name, if he beats Jr) and then Jacobs II next for Golovkin. But I wonder if we'll see Jacobs step up to 168 soon.
Good analysis , Rummy. I had it very slightly wider but that was a good breakdown. Keep up the good work !
Watched the fight Golovkin vs Jacobs, what a pain those 3 early rounds where to score. I had it 114-113 Golovkin. Was really impressed with how good Jacobs looked in the fight, really solid footwork, good balance and moved really well. Golovkin had the luxuary of being patient tho and the knockdown was really impactful. I thought the two 115-113 scores where abit wide but haven't seen the Judges scorecards so it's hard to commentate on it. Close fight and would want to see a rematch, but preferably Golovkin vs Alvarez first.
I tend to agree Rummy, when a boxer has tasted and survived another fighter's power, they are better programmed to absorb it. But has Ward truly tasted Krusher's full power? The punch that put him down in the 2nd and badly hurt him was delivered with the inside of the glove - it was more of a glorified push - and lacked the snap of the wrist of a correctly delivered blow. And because of the way it landed, the punch didn't travel through the target but almost stopped on contact. And yet Ward still tasted canvas. To me, this is an overlooked aspect of the knock down. I mean, what happens to Andre if Krusher lands clean?
