My sources(I love saying that), say that Arum has reached an agreement that will see Cotto fighting Mayorga in mid summer and the Winner of Cintron vs Margo in the fall, that is if Margo wins. If this fight happens I dont want to hear another word from Floyd bashers about the subject of Cotto fighting everyone all the top fighters. It kinda looks like Cotto is doing some bone picking. However I will hold final judgement unitl I know for sure if this fight is going to happen... Fuking Mayorga:huh
well at least he's cleaning out the whole division mate, since mayweather doesn't seem to be up for a fight any time soon If he faces mayorga then margarito cintron, he will of beat all the contenders apart from paul williams. Not bad for the guy who is supposed to be 2nd at the weight class
Arum has already stated several times that Cotto will be fighting the winner of Cintron - Margarito probably in July. The Winner of Cintron - Margarito will relinquish the IBF belt to fight cotto as its extremely unlikely that the IBF will grant them permission to not fight the mandatory (Clottey). Clottey will then fight for the vacant belt against the next highest rated contender. So unfortunately we probably wont be seeing Unification for a quite while.
It has Ricardo Mayorga as his opponent on Boxrec, although Mayorga making 147lbs seems unlikely to me. If Mayorga can get down to welter, he'd be a ****ing beast.
that is bull****, mayorga had to take diarrhea pills to make 154 2 years ago to fight oscar de la hoya, how the hell is he going to come down to 147?
Mayorga Vs. The Loser of the Cintron/Margarito Fight... is what we Should be Seeing Instead. Allowing Cintron/Margarito to Battle Cotto/Gomez Instead Leaving An Open Chistmas Vs. PPF. Too Bad Oscar is Gonna **** All That Up... By Putting Himself in the Mix.
He's probably lining up mayo so margo can defend he's belt. Then come the fall they'll be fighting a unification
Guess this will be at a catchweight if it happens. I dont see the point, if De La Hoya got rid of him in 5 or 6 or whatever the **** it was, Cotto would probably retire him. If I was in MAyorgas corner for that fight, my advice would be "first time he hits you, go down and stay down"
Straight from Bob Arum's mouth.... GL: Will Cotto and Margarito still fight next if victorious on Saturday night? Bob Arum: "The fight is done, but it's more accurate to say the winner of Margarito-Cintron against Cotto next, provided Cotto beats Gomez. That's all signed contractually." GL: So if Cintron wins he'd fight Cotto next, but he'd have to vacate the IBF title first, correct? BA: "Yes either guy would have to vacate. We would not allow either guy to ask for another exception, nor would Marian grant it." --------------------------------------------- But anyway, the thought of Mayorga making 147 pounds, a weight he hasn't seen in literally 5 years, is laughable. Almost as laughable as Floyd fans criticizing the thought of Cotto fighting Mayorga. When it was a De La Hoya win over that same Mayorga that essentially legitimized Mayweather-De La Hoya, and led to Floyd's "6th title in 5th weight class."
Cotto is fighting Gomez, a nobody that is marketable because he appeared on a tv show, and Mayorga, a guy that hasn't defeated a contender since 2003 and is also marketable. Gomez is a levels below Cotto, he can't beat him. Mayorga always loses every big fight against real contenders and he is just a nice W on the record of the really good fighters. Who is cherrypicking?
if floyd mayweather can do it why cant cotto?:hey anyways read antwuans post, mayorga is not fighting cotto, when was the last time mayorga made it to 147? i'll wait.
