The switch to Roach is a good idea. When something is not working, change it! Furthermore, as hard as it is to believe, I think Manny seriously underestimated Pavlik and failed to do his home work sufficiently. Consider this statement: "He's not used to fighting at this pace. Your conditioning is wearing him down." Or this statement after round four: "He's getting desperate. He's ready to go. You can see it coming." No one who has analyzed Pavlik's career would talk that ****. Kelly is a high pressure, fast paced guy who always comes in to the ring in great shape, and tends to get stronger as the fight goes on. Manny told Taylor he was losing the fight, AND told him Pavlik was "ready to go." WTF!!! I thought Stewart was terrible in the corner during that fight, and I do not think he was really aware of what Pavlik is like.

On the other hand, excersizing the rematch clause was a very bad idea. Pavlik pulled a bonehead move that left him wide open, and then took everything JT could throw at him, and then came back in the very next round and handed him a beating. Pavlik now knows he can come out with guns blazing and JT won't be able to do anything about it. What's worse is that JT knows is too. If JT tries to trade with Kelly the fight won't last 6 rounds. If he tries to box and move, he'll make it to 9 or 10.

I like Taylor, and I think he could have 2 or 3 more years at or near the top if he moved to 168, fought a couple second tier guys, and then went after a major title. He could fight Miranda, who he would beat 4 out of 5 times, and put himself right in the mix at 168. This immediate rematch is NOT the road to a long career at smw.

Good point. AND it was actually a spot on 1-2 mid-ring that proved to be the beginning of the end for JT. Anyone who fights Pavlik has to avoid that because he loves to use a 1-2 to set up the kill. The 1-2 combo in and of itself is not lethal. It simply stuns the opponet enough for Kelly to start hammering them with right hands.

JT just doesn't listen good, the fame got to him mentally, he wasn't ready for it...

Dumb choice. Taylor should go back to Pat Burns. The rapport he has with Burns is much more important than the superior tactical training that Roach could provide (and that Taylor would probably ignore).

It really doesnt matter because neither of those guys can get in the ring and fight for him.

Roach is a much better fit, Steward was all wrong for Taylor.

True, but Taylor was definitely carrying his left on his hip all night. Holding it at least at chest level would do wonders for his defense.
