Oscar scraps Sept 20 date! Oscar De La Hoya has scrapped his September 20 fight date and will instead fight on December 6 against an opponent to be named. According to ESPN, the fight will be in Las Vegas or Los Angeles. De La Hoya was scheduled to face Floyd Mayweather on that date in a reprise of the most lucrative bout in boxing history, but Mayweather scuttled those plans by abruptly retiring. Other bouts reportedly in the Golden Boy Promotions pipline are lightweights Juan Diaz vs Michael Katsidis in Houston on September 6, lightweights Joel Casamayor vs Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas on September 13, super middleweight Shane Mosley vs TBA (possibly Sergio Mora) in Los Angeles on October 11 and former cruiserweight champion David Haye vs TBA in London on November 29. Here's SSM's best course of action: 1) fight Mora and reclaim 154lb belt 2) give Vernon Forrest a shot, beat him, and avenge his former losses 3) call out Winky and beat him at 154 to avenge his former losses 4) by this time Cotto may be #1 at WW, so call out Cotto for a rematch at a catchweight of 150lb with no belts on the line 5) if SSM beats Cotto after this effective ressurection of his career by avenging all of his losses then he will be able to draw Mayweather out of retirement (a)because SSM will be at least 38 yrs old and past his prime and (b)because SSM is with Golden Boy and with these prestigious wins under his belt he will be able to garner PBF money for the fight.
