People are overrating a Bute-Dirrell matchup. Didn't really care for Dirrell's last fight and I just think he'll go down as another case of wasted talent. Guy has skill but not the heart, frustrating. Would love to see another clinic like he did against Abraham or worse but I just think Bute-Dirrell will be a stinker unfortunately. Froch-Bute on the otherhand, what a fight! Much better chance to give the fans the entertainment and skill they deserve.

Taylor needs another relatively easy fight. If he looks good, that fight could happen down the line.

Dirrell v Bute would be a real high quality fight and would give Bute that big win in his resume that he lacks right now, if he wins that is. It's a toss up really and that's what is appealing about the fight.

Bute should fight Dirrell even if it's high risk. As of now he has neither the luxury nor the time to be picky. He is in his prime and if he doesn't start taking risks, he will gain naught and WILL be remembered as the Canadian/Romanian Sven Ottke. Long story short, be pro-active.

I admit, it was harder for him than others to get good match ups because of circumstances out of his control. But now, he doesn't have that excuse as Dirrell is a good match up. After that, if it's still hard to get good match ups at 168 AND ONLY THEN he should consider moving up. And while some might think "oh if he does that he can't unite ... wasted his time wating for the S6 winner ... blah blah". But truth is, better to waste 2years waiting for the S6 winner and move up to have good fights, than try to pursue fighters that don't want to fight you and waste your whole career.

Look at Jean Pascal, he lost at 168. After that, Pascal's name was not in the discussions for title fights. Pascal realized that too, and moved up. Ok there might have been a weight issue, but point is Pascal was proactive. And he is esteemed more highly than undefeated Bute.

When was the last time Bute took a risk? I can't remember. Froch's 1st defense against Talylor was in the US; Pascal fought Froch Dawson Hopkins; Kessler fought Mundine in Oz and Calzhaghe in Wales.

    No risk, no reward.

Froch is a far more viable fight than both of these. What the **** is Showtime doing.

Taylor is at 160 and has had one fight against a C level 154lb fighter.
Dirrell has one win over Daryl Cunningham who hadn't fought in 3 years, not to mention Daryl being another C class fighter.

    What the ****?!

It's confirmed from a number of reliable sources, including Rafael and Kim, that Showtime would rather Bute-Dirrell than Bute-Froch. I don't understand it either, but they're under new management. I suspect they just want him to fight an American who it will be easy to get on the network again.

IMHO, Bute-Dirrell would be damn near unwatchable.

I think I read that Bute's Showtime contract ends after this fight, if so it's common sense what they're doing. They are putting Dirrell in because he will beat Bute...he's much more affordable than Bute, they get to get Froch at a marketable level, and will be able to set up some big fights going forward. Bute is not going to beat Dirrell, I'm astonished that anyone has watched both guys and would honestly believe Bute wins that fight.

Indeed, Bute-Froch would have been a good fight in every way but also a fight between Bute and Andre Dirrell is a good one for Bute because we can see how Lucian handles with a fast-talented fighter . A fight with Dirrell would prepare Bute better for a bout with Ward than a fight with Froch or Kessler. It has a good advantage.
SHO is an american television , so it's normal to promote and impose their fighters ...... and make them hypes :D !

European smw fighters are better draws than american fighters , this is the biggest concern of SHO.

I don't think Showtime are as confident as you are.

If it's Andre Direll, Butte is in for a rude awakening. Direll was the second best fighter of that super 8 tourney by a long shot.

It would be crazy to think anything else... everybody thinks Dirrell beats Bute.
He's just an anomaly, a freak of nature of some kind.

Yes Dirrell is the second best fighter of that Tournament called ... Super6 i believe, because he clearly beat Froch and Knocked AA out... or was it the other way around ?!
    :huh
