I've heard this fight is in the works, providing Ortiz can come through his monumental challenge against Dave Allen tomorrow night.

Decent fight. Would happen in the UK. Two old lions slugging it out for a paper title. Would put them in line to fight winner of Joshua v Wlad.

Will Briggs want it though? He's obviously looking to cash out and Ortiz isn't a big draw so wouldn't represent a good payday. Even if the WBA mandated it, it's likely Briggs would look for an easier and more lucrative fight.

Why oh why do they keep putting that paper interim and regular belts up for grabs? Weren't the WBA going to clean up the mess and come with one single HW belt holder?
There's no interim or regular holder now, so that one is solved, right?!
Wrong obviously because they just keep changing who fights for it, instead of the obvious solution.

At this stage Briggs will probably take what he can get, maybe especially after Ortiz mediocre showing recently. Briggs knows if he wins a belt he has multi million dollar paydays waiting for him. Haye would be salivating at this.

Browne wasn't any more money than Ortiz anyway, although more winnable to be fair. He's really got no other options to be honest.

Briggs would be vicious KO'ed. He doesn't need this fight. He should cash out with a Haye fight.

If Briggs doesn't take it the WBA will offer a shot to the next person standing next to him, and if not him, some random person passing by. They need to get someone to fight for it then get the winner to fight Oquendo. Hopefully the whole WBA HW saga will be sorted in 2017.

Fres Oquendo mentioned on his Instagram that he's preparing to fight Shannon Briggs. Posted a day ago. His prep team includes includes David Haye as a sparring partner.
