Some of the excuses I've heard so far now from the Joshua's fans have been

    • Panic Attack
    • Mental illness
    • Being forced to fight against his will! because it's outrageous that a fighter is expected to fight!
    • Before the fight he was approached by the Mexican Cartel who gave him the bruises which we saw him blame the physio for and was coerced into throwing the fight in the 7th
    • Mouth piece was too tight, which is why he was chewing on it and it effected his breathing during the fight which is why he wasn't his usual self
    • Knocked out in sparring was still concussed and none of the doctors on site doing pre-medical checks picked up on it.
    • Had a chest surgery operation a few days before the fight and was left with scars, which meant he wasn't able to throw his signature punches in combinations
    • Eddie Hearn drugged him up in the dressing to in order to build more revenue for the rematch.
    Anymore that I've missed?

Non-sense explanation thread posted after-the-fact #381. Straight to the trash can.

AJ got the living daylights knocked out of him. That's all there is to it. It happens, this is boxing. No tinfoil-head theories are required to explain this.

    1. Chewing his mouthpiece during the introductions was conclusive evidence for a diagnosis of concussion, overriding the opinions of the doctors who conducted his pre-fight physical.

I suggest consolidating the list into its own thread so it can be continuously be updated with new breakthrough info.

Hearns should stipulate a clause in future contracts with AJ opponents and guaranteed zero panic attacks

    No punches to his face

    There are several possible explanations:

    1) Maybe because he IS an idiot

    2) Perhaps because he’s an emotional person who was upset at getting his son sparked out

Could be a zillion other reasons: AJ has said before he’s not comfortable fighting outside the UK and his dad blames the promoter for having him come to America; maybe he was mad that the ref stopped the fight and blamed Eddie for not getting the usual friendly officiating AJ is used to back home; heck, he could have been seeing dollars from a Wilder unification go up in smoke and thinks Eddie should have found a way to make the fight; etc., etc.

I do not conclude from a brief video clip of a man standing behind someone else (the focus of the camera) in the background talking to someone and waving their finger around a bit that he was an aggrieved party whose son was done wrong. He wasn’t going at Eddie’s throat, they didn’t call security to tackle him or anything.

Let me ask a couple of things:

    * What’s the father even doing in the ring anyway? (Is there anything more beta than having your father come in your workplace and yell at your boss?)

    * Do we know if the father was even in the locker room before the fight? If not, how would he even know what did or did not go down there?

    * Do we know if he was in training camp every day with AJ? If not, again, how would he even know what happened there?

Why would anyone see someone acting like an idiot and assume “boy, the promoter must have really screwed over his son?” — the same promoter who built his son into a star and made him more money than his grandchildren will ever be able to spend.

Wait, maybe AJ’s father was thanking Eddie for the ringside seats and AJ was trying to take credit: “It was me, it was my choice!!!”

This assumes that the commission aren't corrupt. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't.

How would the commission know this if AJ or his camp didn’t tell them, presuming it happened.

I’m sure he had all the required battery of tests. If AJ was concussed — and rumors that he got knocked down in camp don’t mean he sustained a concussion — then it’s the duty of him and his camp to report it. I doctor can’t look into his eyes and see that.

Sorry to be that guy, but a person’s eyes can tell if they were concussed...impaired convergence, double vision, light sensitivity, and a lot of other stuff.

At the moment it happens yes, but he did not get carried on a stretcher from sparring to the prefight physical exam.

It’s rumored that he was concussed in sparring. That would likely have been a week or so before, maybe even several.

Panic attacks are debilitating but he can get better. My mom had them and they don't look pleasant for anyone. She would get them in her car even when I was a kid and she got so nervous and just wanted out of the situation which was driving, but she knew she could not just stop driving and give in to them. So it was always a struggle. Not comparing Joshua to my mom, but if he gets on the right medication he can get better. He has a lot of pressure on him with all those big fights. Some people are just very sensitive to it all.

Those are lasting effects. Not saying he had any of those.

Depends on degree of concussion but in nearly all cases those are short-term. I’ve had a few concussions and I do not have double vision or any of the others. NFL players and others who go through concussion protocol might have those immediately but they aren’t cleared until they go away. Quite often that’s just a couple of days.
