I must start off by saying that by no means am I an expert on fitness. I simply happen to enjoy running and swimming as ways to excerise.
First off running is more intuitive than swimming. At some point very early in our lives we naturaly pick walking. Running is simply an extension of walking. In order to swim you must be taught how to swim.
Running in my opinion has the advantage in terms of crodovasculer conditioning and overall stanima or endurance. It is easier to do speed drills running than it is swimming. Speed biluds endurance.
Swimming as well as other water excirsies is great for over all fitness. It can build long lean muscal and build muscal endurance. Amother advantage that swimming has is that it easier on the joints. There is no pounding the pavement. However it is easier to do speed drills running than it is to with swimming not that you can't do them with swimming, but for example if you are hving injury isues related to running I might consder cycling or an eleptical machine for speed work.
Perhapas the bigest advantage running has over swimming is that in most cases running is simply a matter of going outside and unfourntly not everyone has acess to a swimming pool.
Like I said I'm not an expert just my opinion.
