Some of people here are critisizing Ruslan of not having jab. Have you seen his hands. His jab would not reach opponents aura not saying face. He has to be very close to you.
The lack of an uppercut has hurt him more, especially against Algieri and to a lesser extent last night.
Meh it depends some boxers with short arms are able to double up the jab to get close and land their shots.Provo seems to think he just can take the punishment coming in to land his shots but that hasn't really been working out when he fights at the top of the sport. He's tough, has heart, a solid chin. But it isn't enough. I'm more perplexed that it didn't seem he had a gameplan coming in and his corner didn't help him adjust at all.
That's really dumb. He actually hit Matthysse with some pretty good jabs - the problem is that he threw so few of them. Not only that, but on the inside, you can throw a really hard jab basically like a power punch. Andre Ward, for example, does this. Also, you can use a jab to throw off your opponent's rhythm and to create space. You can also use it to mask other punches. If you throw very few jabs and almost everything is power shots, that's easier for your opponent to predict and neutralize.
I think he needs to jab more and load up less He could do a lot better to throw more shots with less power not try to kill a guy with one shot Even when he'd clobber Bradley or Algueri and Lucas and have them hurt had he always missed the follow up
