I kind of liked Barney myself. I'd be interested to see him come back against a name fighter. Arreola, Peter, Dimitrenko, Povetkin...any of those guys. Could give some interesting results.
Which ones are you exactly talking about Brick? I remember he had an appearence or two on Showtime and possibly ESPN in his early days before he left the States. Could have sworn Ive seen a few of them...youtube has a couple of them up by the looks of it. Mostly inconsequential opponents really but I remember really being quite high on him them. Once he stepped up his opp in Germany a lot of those fights were filmed and televised there...and you could usually find them on the net a week or two later..usually highlights.
I think he'd be a solid test if not a winner with any of these guys not named Klitschko right now if he's still the same guy. Adamek/Iggy would interest me a lot, even though I can't imagine that bout being proposed by anybody else.
Excuses ,Excuses ,Inflamation of the liver ,give me a break .Tyson had Gonorrhea when he beat Trevor Berbick to become champ.
Chagaev is a very talented fighter. You don't beat Savon at 19 years old without having that boxing instinct. His technique is excellent and he seems to have an iron chin, but Wlad was all wrong for him. Too bad injuries damaged him so bad. He pulled out of that Ibragimov fight because of hepatitis. That fight could still be made today. I doubt he is able to come back successfully. His body took a beating over the years.
I didn't even know he was schedule to fight Iggy. He really must have a sturdy beard. He took so many flush bombs from Wlad I was wincing. By the time he retired in the corner he'd absorbed more than I think Eddie Chambers did in the entire fight with Wlad. Wlad wasn't being stingy in that fight. I actually think that is one of the best modern HW displays of chin I've seen, RTD or not.
He was a decent technician but not really a "special" talent. Managed to get by Ruiz, Valuev and Virchis but he didn't achieve a whole lot other than that, partly due to injuries. Right now he is well washed up and probably won't go onto accomplish much. I'm more impressed by his amateur fights against Savon, as a professional he put on extra pounds and as a result became more slow and plodding, though still mobile enough to outbox the likes of Valuev.
No on has or will ever "outbox" Valuev. It is impossible. You can sing over Willie Nelson but not outsing him. Same as you can only box "over" Valuev, but not truly "outbox" him. :think
From what I have read, he got the hep in 2003 or so. Didn't seem to bother him when he was working himself up the rankings and beat Valuev. Now that he has lost his dedication suddenly everybody blames his sickness. Didn't you see the training vid posted a couple weeks ago? Chagaev looked like the fat, unmotivated kid from a high school gym class and the trainer called him 'fatso'.
Are you saying that Tyson didn't beat Berbick while having Gonorrhea, because it's an Iron clad fact .As far as Chagaev goes , he only came back for money modivated reasons after the bout with Hepa = LIVER --Titis= INFLAMMATION OF. He and his camp knew that he wasnt going to be the same guy . He got the beat down from Klit and looked LOW B- grade at best. So maybe you should bounce before telling me that I dont know what Im talkin about ,Ive been around the fight game as long or longer than you BUD!
Beeing aound for a long time doesn´t mean you know much. How do you know Chagaev only came back for money? He is fighting Kali Meehan for in a title eliminator on Mai 22nd btw. How do you know it wasn´t Wlad that made Chagaev look B-? Gonorrhea is not comparable with hepatitis. Hepatitis can ruin a fighters career, gonorrhea makes you uncomfortable. And he had an injury of his Achilles tendon too. That´s also an career threatening injury. Making a thread excusing Tyson for biting Holyfield and than entering another thread claiming others making excuses for Chagaev is one of the most ironic things I´ve seen in classic so far. Really funny.
