Oquendo says he's currently negotiating with Chagaev for a fight on June 7 in Chechnya. Its for the vacant WBA regular title.
Looking at the WBA rankings, I would prefer Luis Ortiz vs. either Chagaev or Povetkin, rather than Oquendo.
and winner becomes mandatory for their World/Super title or whatever they call it that Wlad holds the WBA are a laughing stock
I don't think that the winner would immediately become the mandatory. They would let the WBA titlist defend it a couple of times first before declaring him a mandatory. Chagaev is obviously looking to secure a last big match in his career, although I don't think that he has any chance against Wladimir at this point in his career.
he didn't have a chance first time around, and certainly doesn't have any chance these days I honestly don't see why two washed up fighters like Chagaev and Oquendo get to fight for a title, even if it is a paper version, that puts them in line for a possible payday vs Wlad
Chagaev is no longer a top ten HW, and Oquendo is no longer a top 50 HW. If this is for the "world" title then the WBA are making a mockery of the sport of boxing.
what a slop fest of a fight.....WOW! oquendo is in his 40's now and Chagaev is fat and jiggly.... :-(
I don't believe that the winner would get the chance to fight Klitschko. What could be a possible scenario is Povetkin fighting the winner (most likely Chagaev) in order to get his WBA title back and try to get the rematch with Wladimir. Of course there are a few other possibilities, such as Povetkin choosing the WBC path and taking the title from Stiverne or whoever has it at that moment and therefore forcing Wladimir to fight him in order to get that WBC belt. Of course this is just me guessing since nothing of this confirmed other than Povetkin fighting Charr.
Wow, there are many good boxers, many good names and certainly a lot of talent in the HW pool, but those mandatories and eliminator-fights are laughable jokes.
