After being stripped by the WBA, Ruslan's manager said he didn't want to risk his eye on further fights and hangs them up now.

Note the WBA said in their tweets that Chagaevs team never replied although they sent numerous requests to him to schedule a fight with Oquendo. The eye injury just sounds like a lame excuse. He should have retired earlier.

Basically he hasn't been a legitimate top level HW since the Povetkin fight

I suspected he would when I heard the reason he was stripped. He basically went incommunicado to the WBA.

Shame really, not gonna judge too harshly but he certainly didn't make the most of his talent.

He has been a good boxer. The first to beat Valuev, despite the massive size difference, and did even too well considering his dwarf height.

He had a truly iron chin

I guess it dawned on him that him being KTFO had nothing to do with Clenbuterol.

Good luck to him, was a very tough customer as his war with Povetkin proved.

Good time to do so. He accomplished a lot despite leaving his prime in the amatuers. A lt of young lions now, and he an walk away with pride rather than become a gatekeeper.

I liked Chagaev, though I think he could have had a better career than he did

(Not to say he's had a bad one)

Completely fat and unmotivated yet he still managed to hang around.... Kind of a shame because if he took himself a little more serious his final run would have been much better.

Finally, this is David Haye's chance to pick up an easy belt lol and use that belt as a carrot to lure Anthony Joshua into a big money fight.
