On a technicality I suppose. But, the concept of unification has really gotten shallow as of late. With something like 5 or 6 sanctioning bodies ( or whatever the hell it is these days, ) unifying two of them, especially against a weak holder ( Ibragimov), in an unimpressive contest, does not impress me much as a fan. Now, I agree that Wlad has been a little busier than Chagaev. Ruslan is fighting on average about once per year, Wlad is fighting maybe twice annualy. Wlad recently beat Thompson and Ibragimov, who is better than Matt Skelton admittadely ( but only beacause Ibragimov was holding a title, not because he's leagues better ). Chagaev's win over Valuev however, is arguably better than anything else the two of them has done within the last 3 years or so.. Just my opinion.
Doesn't look like the Drummond fight is for any title. He did beat chinny chin chin Kelvin Davis, right? Does this guy even exist?
Chagaev's win over Valuev was a very questionable close point victory. I think Ibragimov would beat Chagaev. Chagaev looked bad vs Skelton
hahaha and you wonder why boxing is in the shitter... vitali is off 3-4 years and comes back and fights peter at least....
I think you need to reread my statement which was: I was refering to Valuev, not Chagaev. One of the reasons why I usually stay away from the general forum. I have to help people with reading comprehension. Sure, but the phrase " this day and age ", basically says it all. And by the way, if you think Sultan Ibragimov was a champion, then I really have to question your standards. What the hell do you think a boxing match is all about, especially when a much smaller challenger takes on a vastly larger opponent???? Can you name one person who has? Of Wlad's last 4 opponents over the last two years ( Thompson, Ibragimov, Austin, Brewster ), can you name one that was a better scalp than Nikolay Valuev? Better yet, how many of Wlad's 54 pro fights were better wins from a status perspective than Valuev? His decision I'm sure. If fighters called all the shots, then what the hell do you think managers and promotors do. He's also never lost to anybody, which is more than any of the current titlists can claim. You mean your done? I was really hoping for some more useless information.
Agree on all counts. Its hard to get excited about him, even if he did manage to eek out a decision over Valuev. Apparently Holyfield also outboxed Valuev, truth be told. I just hope Chagaev gets in there with some bigger names and his promoter puts his beef with the brothers aside in order to get this title unified with the others..........., Its getting a big boring, seeing Chagaev stay sheltered in that little WBA group who all fight each other, and nooone else, outside of a tomato can here and there between the Valuev and Ruiz rematches.
I agree. He looked somewhat promising mid-2007 when he beat Valuev, but it's been disappointment after disappointment. I hope he becomes more active and doesn't get injured/sick/whatever again.
I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that Chagaev only 'eked' out a decison over Valuev, he was the superior boxer throughout and won the vast majority of the rounds clearly. The only reason all the score cards did not read that way was because it was a Sauerland event and it should be clear by now that, as the new version of the old saying goes, you need to get a KO for a draw against Valuev on a Sauerland card.
Wanted to find the name of that white dude he fought to a SD "win" so I went to boxrec and clicked on heavyweight rankings to find James but couldnt find him for ****, cuz the mother****er aint even in the top 40 of boxrec ranking. Anyways I found him finally at #41 and the name of the opponent is Danny Beltchelder. When is James Toney gonna give him a rematch, he lost that fight. Speaking of gifts, how about Fres Oquendo?
