If he gets to fight them 4 times like Layne did, then it's definitely possible yes. Is he the greater fighter? No. Would it happen? I don't know.

 

I could see Chagaev beating Charles and Walcott. You seem to overlook that Chagaev was being outclassed by a great, dominant champion last night. It's no surprise that Chagaev didn't look good.

You are deluded about David Haye, who is really untested at heavyweight. Last night Vlad would have put Haye down for the count. Haye would not be able to open up on Vlad because Vlad would dominate him from long range with the left jab. If Haye opens up, he will quickly be kayoed by Vlad's right cross.

 

It's really enlightening that the estimation of Chagaev is being based on his performance against Wlad.

Likewise, we should base our estimation of Charles on his performance against Layne or Harold Johnson.

And just to clarify, my assertion is that he could be ranked in the top-5 at just about any point in time, not that he would be the top 5 heavy of any entire decade.

It is not unreasonable to pick Chagaev over Charles and Walcot. Chagaev would be far more effective against these fighters than he was against Vlad.

 

Yes, but on the other hand, Chagaev has the better chin and is bigger.

Then i'd pick Walcott or Charles.

But like i said, Walcott lost to Layne and a few others, as did Charles, so a Chagaev win is not out of the question.

 

The notion of a "peak" Jersey Joe is a little far-fetched. Inconsistency was a hallmark of his career. Flashy (and many times useless) footwork aside, in a result-driven analysis, he comes up short.

Chagaev has seen his best days, certainly. The Skelton match was evidence o fthis. The post-Tua version of Ruiz makes just about everyone look pretty mediocre. Though I hated his style, he was effective.

 

I called it like I saw it before the fight and so many others did as well.

Have Wlad fight Haye and then you can say that ****.
