Glad to see Chagaev back in action.. Oquendo isn't very good but he has a top 10 ranking by the WBA... If Chagaev wins it could set up a fight with Ortiz or Jennings. He's a bit faded, but I think he might have one more run left in him.

    :deal

A motivated Chagaev is a asset to the HW division... I don't think he's faded as much as some thing, but he definitely showed a lack of motivation in some of hisnstay busy fight... This is probably he's biggest fight since losing to povetkin, so I'm sure he'll take it seriously.... a win could set up fights with Ortiz or Jennings.

I like Chagaev, but I hope this is a WBA eliminator and not for the WBA "World" title.

I'd like to see Fres win but he'll need to stop Chagaev otherwise he'll lose on the cards; it's happened too many times...

Oquendo's style is such that he NOT going to beat the aggressor in a fight.
Hard to give him rds when he's so negative for much of a rd.

Close fights don't favor him, NO.......but don't pretend that Chagaev has been the beneficiary of a bunch of robbery wins.:nono:nono
He clearly beat Valuev, whereas Haye won a robbery.

The WBA title IS an eliminator. It just allows for it's winner to defend his #1 status and calls him a titlist.

    Wladimir holds the WBA Championship.:deal

Nothing great exactly, but Oquendo did clown Rossy and win the NABA title last June and fought another "decent" journeyman in Browne earlier this month.

Chagaev agreed to the 4 man tournament including Ortiz vs Kauffman(?) and himself vs Pudar. He held up his end of the agreement and was prepared to fight Ortiz for the vacant title.

No one has any info as to why Ortiz did not make a fight with a top 10 ranked WBA fighter and instead stepped up against Barrett. Still a solid enough win vs Barrett, but perhaps the WBA expected him to fight their chosen WBA ranked opponent.

Either way, this is NOT a real title. It's essentially an eliminator that can play out as long as 2 yrs.

IMO, this is good for boxing, b/c it forced top 30 matchups to be consistently made, and enforces the #1 to fight regularly within the top 30 to maintain his ranking(title).

I also like it b/c it gives guys like Adamek, Scott, Glaskov, Kauffman, Chambers and Jennings reasons to make fights.

Those guys will be lining up to fight Chagaev/Oquendo, and the winner will be able to call himself a titlist. :think

the WBA is ridiculous, as if there aren't better fighters who aren't aged or shot to pieces that are more worthy of being higher ranked

Kaufman? a washed up Chagaev? Oquendo? really? a better 4 man tourney would be Povetkin/Ortiz/Chisora/Jennings. ffs they have Tarver, 41 year old Pudar and Kaufman in their top 15, they are by far the worst of the biggest sanctioning bodies

True about a better tourney, but you need the fighters to agree.

And why do you consider Chagaev washed up?

He hasnt lost a rd since narrowly losing the first kiddie title against Potvetkin. Granted, his LOC has been low, but who's isn't.

Potvetkin carried the minor title well until he made his mandate with Wladimir, but are we to assume he'd have such high LOC if he wasnt defending the WBAs worthless belt??????

When/if Haye returns, he and Potvektin(win or lose vs Charr) will automatically be given a boxoff for the mandate vs Chagaev/Oquendo.

The WBA has it's favorites just like the other bodies do......and Chagaev, Haye, Potvekin and Kauffman happen to be highly favored.

What if anything has Ortiz done to deserve such a high ranking????Nothing more than Kauffman or Pudar.:nono
