Ruslan Chagaev vs the 1950s

Chagaev has never been stopped in over 100 combined amateur and pro fights. He has never been down as a pro, and was never stopped as an amateur. His chin is good. Nothing Virchis, Valuev, Ruiz, Skelton, or anyone other fighter landed on him had his knees buckled or forced him to clinch.

 

But really, 4 2 minute round fights can't be the same as 12 3 minute pro fights can they?

Don't take things out of context jr. I was simply saying that beating Felix Savon twice is a major accomplishment. Then someone morphed it.

If your talking about Charles in the 50's he lost 20 times, and was Ko'd frequently.

If you ware talking about Wlacott in the 50's he only fought 10 times in the 50's, and lost 4 times.

Now, all you need to do is claim I haven't seen something yet to embarrass yourself some more.

A very fair and reasonable observation. However, WHO has he tested his durability against? While its true that men like Virchis and perhaps even Skelton possess some degree of power, these men hardly have a workrate worth mentioning and nor have either really proven their power against world beaters. Now, had Chageav taken the very best that men like David Haye, Chris Areola, or Vitali Klitschko have to offer, THEN I might be inclined to saying that his Iron chin is confirmed. As it stands however, I am only ready to credit him as having a " good chin. " The claim to an " iron chin " remains to be seen..

 

I do hope that he shows up in good form.. I don't know what Chagaev has to offer, but whatever it is, I'm hoping for his very best. It would be a shame to see him come to the biggest fight of his life and fizzle within the first 5 rounds.

This is a very important turning point in the careers of both Wladimir Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev. While I still won't call either of them an all time great come sunday morning after the fight, it certainly is a major step in that direction..

 

Yes I will wait till the weekend,from what Ive seen of Chagaev ,only 4 fights, he looks avarage,if he is competitve with Wlad ,it might be telling us more about the big guy than him.

 

If you have 100+ fights vs heavyweights without a stoppage loss, that is strong proof of a good chin. As I said before, Chagaev was hit by real heavyweights, not 180-190 pound men posing as heavyweights with **** poor knock Out percentages. Since a few posters keep brining up Felix Savon, I think its easily understood that he hit much harder than Charles or Walcott. Savon was a legitimate terror in the amateur and ko'd quite a few men of men who would later to be top ten fighters or alphabet champions.

 

Again, 3 or 4, 2 minute rounds with headgear, hardly qualifies as pro.

 

Tell you what, for the sake of everybody's sanity here, let's just wait until we see the outcome of Saturday's fight, huh? While I sympathize with your position, and feel bad about all the **** you've gotten from everybody here, I have to say that you're probably better off putting your views on Chagaev vs all time greats on hold for a few days.. The pricks in the general forum have been drawn to our sanctuary here, and frankly I'd rather keep them out of it....

Amir Khan had around 50-60 amateur fights without being stopped, his chin at LW must be iron too.

Pillow gloves and big padded head guards and 2miniute rounds might just help too

Chagaev's chin is unproven against top level punchers, plain and simple
