What the hell is going on with this guy?

He's ranked well, but everyone is saying he looks awful and he has trouble getting fights because of the Hep.

Seems like he's going to have to hang em up if nobody is going to fight him.

    Thoughts?

I like Ruslan Chagaev, and felt that he had more potential than he actually fulfilled. But, I think at this point, he's better off retiring, and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way.. For the past 3 years, he has struggled on an off with injuries, illness, and promotional issues that have all kept him relatively inactive, not to mention, taking a beating from Wlad, and suffering a bad cut against Drummond. I have no doubt that he can still fight, but I don't see him getting his hands anywhere near a title again, and sticking around for small paydays isn't worth losing to mediocrities.

He is waiting for his title shot but it looks like he will be shafted by BBBofC, Haye and WBA. Walker fight did not mean much. He had to take that fight to keep his mandatory status (WBA requires mandatories to fight at least once a year). I say if he does not get his shot at the title he should retire and sue the pants off WBA.

he is washed up big time. After I seen the drummond fight, you could tell she was done at the elite level. the guy did jack **** vs wlad and got school pretty bad. I always though he wasnt that good from the get go. who has he really fought?? Ruiz , Big nick.

He's a bum just let the rest of the WBA Heavy Champ in the last 10 years

The BBBoC have health rules for a reason.

If Chagaev can't comply with those that's just too bad.

I think it was the tendon tear that did for him myself. He certainly hasn't looked himself since.

While I agree Chagaev has backslid, I think Travis Walker could make alot of Top 10 heavyweights look bad. Walker wanted to win that fight and almost took it.

The fact that Haye is determined to duck Chag suggests Chag is still considered dangerous.

I agree, it's a shame he hasn't got much power. He's got everything else though...

:good He's probably Wlad's best victory. Ruslan in his prime was a really good fighter. Loved his upper body movement and was a very tricky fighter.

Agreed 100%. :good It's a shame really, that injury really punched the wind out of his ability. He was in his career best shape and still couldn't take more than one round (the 6th) off Wlad, but at least he gave his best and took the fight on two weeks notice. He should enjoy retirement knowing that he was a worthy title contender and that he took wins off of the great Felix Savon.
