The refs job isn't to give a fighter chances. The ref should be impartial. If a fighters corner says "Stop this fight," then the ref should be stopping the fight. A fighters corner knows his fighter better than the ref does.

It may have been an accident but Foreman should have been told to continue immediately or thats it. It was no fault of Cottos. Foreman had a serious injury that was keeping him from defending himself properly.

 

Wasn't Mercante the referee in the Jones-Lebedev fight? And then in one of the preceding undercard fights were some guy was almost beaten into a coma.

That was a chain of shocking decisions.

Marlon Wright in Bute-Andrade I should be #1.

I'd also put Zack Clayton on the list, for Ali - Foreman. ( amazingly fast count @ about 8.5 actual seconds) that started before Ali even headed for his corner, and STILL Foreman was up before ten.)

- but I doubt many folks will agree with me.
Still, that ref was clearly on the take, IMO there's no doubt about it.


As for LITTLE Foreman, I agree with others that Mercante Jr was justified in that fight.

Every 'bad' referee should model themselves on Kenny Bayless; well atleast Mora should try this or go back to school.

I think that's the Williams fight. Danny Williams was on the verge of knocking out the other guy with 1min or something left and the ref helped him up and stopped the round for a break LOL.
