He pretty clearly went down as a result of that last left hook to the body on a delayed reaction (as body shots often are). It was plenty hard enough to force him to a knee, especially as the final straw after all the accumulation he'd taken both upstairs and down.

To be fair to Kovalev, the smile he initially wore upon triumph completely vanished once he saw the orange thing come out - and he bore a look of concern until the referee walked over to go through the "official particulars" ceremony. You can see him look somberly at Panin as if thinking "****, I have to let you raise my hand now?". Of course, he did then pump his fist at the crowd a few times but they were cheering and it would have been odd to not respond to their feedback in some small way in that moment. Also, nobody there had any way of knowing just how serious Simakov's situation was yet. (except maybe his camp members and the medical staff that were cloistered right close up to him as he was removed from the ring)

Yes for me it also looked that last punch was body punch. But he shouldn't have died from body punch... Its very strange.

    RIP

This is why i respect boxers. They are literally risking their health and in this case, their lives, everytime they get in that ring.

    OMG R.I.P.
The ref didn't do anything wrong, no premature stoppage though.
I am wondering if fighting six times this year was the reason, maybe he had a brain damage already before this fight? I actually thought I would see a brutal KO in this video.

This is why Boxing is the most dangerous sport.

Every year all around the world we lose some boxers to brain injury.
