Hard to say look at Benn celebrating after Gman. easy with hindsight calling him a ***** but would you not be thrilled to win a fight especially one your not the favourite?

Only the knockdown was caused by the body shot. It was everything before it that killed him. He shouldn't have ever been allowed to come out for the 7th round and by then even it may have already been too late for him.

Rewatching the 6th round now, it's far worse than it had seemed live. It's one of the most horrific beatings I've ever seen and makes stuff like Klitshcko-Briggs and the middle rounds of Pacquiao-Margarito look completely mild and non-worrisome in comparison.

Any time after the knockdown would have been appropriate to stop it. By the time the bell rang to end the sixth so much unnecessary excess damage had been done. :verysad

The ****ed up thing is, if it hadn't turned out so tragically and if you take away how bad Simakov looked in those final moments in the 7th before the last knockdown (struggling to maintain his equilibrium) - there are actually a sizable number of posters on this board who had they seen it would call it a "bad stoppage". Incredibly ****ed up, but true.

Sickening to watch that, so sad.

It's why i will always back Cotto's stance over Margarito's (the dying to win the fight thing) and always have respect for him taking those knees in the first fight (that was before knowing he was fighting a cheating scumbag)

It is not worth dying over or taking unneccesary punishment.

The blame should be laid in equal parts at the feet of Roman's corner workers and Viktor Panin, the third man in the ring and with the closest view of the action.

You could actually see Panin instinctively sort of feinting/motioning as if he were about to jump in and wave it off at just about the halfway point of Round Six. He ends up holding back, though - and just casually watches the rest of carnage unfold right before his eyes without ever making another move to intervene until the very end four minutes later. Fault him for that decision.

Fault Simakov's corner for not just leaving well enough alone and ending it between rounds with Roman allowed the small moral victory of having made it to his stool.

Fault all of them for letting the seventh go on as long as it did.

His death was preventable and should rightfully weigh heavily on the consciences of those directly responsible.

Yet rest assured that had certain high-profile ESB members been watching it live on Monday, they'd have been in a furor had Panin stopped it after the knockdown in the 6th...and would have still grumbled about waving it off in the 7th from a "mere knee taken after a body shot".

I won't name names, but let's just say soft yellow-bellied "intellectual" types...educators, for instance...people who want to be entertained by the savagery of bloodsport whatever the cost to the point where nothing but a clean 10-second-count out-cold knockout will ever do - but who would be reduced to blubbering messes and screeching for aid (and then vowing litigious action) if you popped them with so much as one flush jab. Heavens forbid their precious eggheads receive so much as an open-fingered slap, but the participants of the sport they claim to love and whom they are so ready and willing to dehumanize for their own selfish and impotent fetish for gore? Let them never be withheld from the finality of a "natural" conclusion - be it a short nap from a more mild concussion, or a literal fight to the death.

    Supposed "humanists", too. Liberals.

    Craven ****ing hypocrites.

As much as I love this sport, it's news like this that always makes me realise how terrible and ugly it can be. RIP.

This is why it's so pathetic to see people running around chortling about how they hope someone gets 'brutally knocked out' or that their 'glass chin shatters', etc. It's like they treat the sport like a videogame, and they don't realise how horrible the consequences in the ring can be. Maybe they DO realise but they just don't have a single trace of empathy in their body. It's sick.

    Very sad. Only 27.
    RIP.

Sad too that this contnues so many years after Benny Paret, and all the publicity at that time.

Bad enough that the long-term damage is difficult to gauge until that is often too late (like with Ali and many others), but perhaps there should be some automatic physician exam of both fighters in between all Rds.

The interval could be lengthened to facilitate this.

My suspicion that it's actually the latter grows stronger all the time.

Please im as liberal as they come and i never complain about a stoppage, the fighters health is the most important thing and i never want to see someone hurt seriously for my entertainment.

Also i know enough conservatives that thrive on seeing people get hurt as do liberals.

A fighter died and should be respected accordingly, no need to drag political/belief systems into it.

    R.I.P Simakov.

Wow, for someone who joined ESB in January 06 you must not have paid much attention these past six years to not realize the target there (and it isn't anything to do with liberals as a generalization - nor college professors as a generalization ...)

I don't post a lot i just read tons, i do not waste time on trolling wars or flame fests.
Just a fight fan from Holland.

What i did notice when i visited the USA and Dallas in particular was a lot of pre conceived notions due to my place of origin from the people there.

Anyway not gonna get into a debate here when it is a thread dedicated to a fallen fighter.
If i misunderstood what you wrote so be it i apologise and lets move on.

(natural conclusion harper is Zakman btw i do know that much)
