Anyone know anything about it. I just heard about it and found a video on youtube.

I found this on wikipedia but would like to know more about it if anyone knows anything.

The "wall-on-wall" fight (with anywhere from dozen to several hundreds participants) was performed strictly by rules and could go on for hours. Both "walls" had a chief fighter, who served as a tactician and a commanding officer. "Walls" themselves were tight straight formations 3-4 ranks deep. Repeated attacks were performed, aiming to push the opposing "wall" out of the game area. Basic tactics were used, such as breaching using heavy fighters (who were usually held in reserve), encircling, false retreat and others; but as a rule, tight wall formation never broke. Tactics also included battle planning. The "wall-on-wall" fights, while performed for entertainment, were in fact close to military training. For example, notable ethnographer V. Gilyarovsky recalled that during his voluntary service in an infantry regiment soldiers often staged wall-on-wall fistfights with factory workers.[18]
A famous phrase in Russian, "Do not hit a man when he's down", has roots in that sport.[19]

I know this shouldnt really be in the classic but i rarely stray into other areas of the forum.

  9. Stupid and irresponsible. As a martial artist I am ashamed. These jerk offs are the reason the media think we are all a pack of brutal savages.

OP It's called Stenka Na Stenku, it's in all Slavic countries and it is part of celebrations for our religion going back to Pagan times. What you posted isn't Wall to Wall, that's when it's large group vs group fighting like this. It basically looks exactly like Football hooligan fights.

some individual fights, group fights, and wrestling during Maslenitsa

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEpuAtrIzss&feature=related[/ame]

This is football hooligan fights with two Ukrainian Clubs. Current Polish HW prospect Artur Szpilka used to be a Football Hooligan

    Two more Ukrainian clubs

As a Slavic person you should be ashamed that you don't know the history of your own people you ****ing clown. It's a part of our religion and it's been done as long as we've existed. As far as recorded history it's documented back to the times of Kievan Rus over a Millenium ago. So i'll gladly continue carrying on our traditions and being considered a "brutal savage" by Western ***gots and you continue embracing the more "evolved" cultural traditions of waxing your eyebrows, demonstrating alongside feminists, eating hotdogs, and worshipping Seth Mitchell.

    For OP

It's associated with the Maslenitsa holiday to celebrate the end of Winter, today with Christianity it's supposed to represent the week before lent. It's a week long festival with lots of different activities and one of the days the celebrations include the Stenka Na Stenku fighting.

    4:50 for the group fights.

These ones show some of the other Maslenitsa activities besides the fighting and here's a link for a explaination for each day and its events.

Actually one of my favourite bands, Arkona, a Russian Pagan Folk Metal band has a song for it

Thanx that was a brilliant post. Better than anything i have managed to read online about it.
    :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup
The video i posted they claim it was wall to wall. If not, is what they are doing a traditional Russian event or is that just some men being men?

  13. Fighting like that has no value. I
have what is called "honor" and I have what is called "a job." I dont have time to get all homoerotic with a bunch of shirtless sweaty Russian ******s in a field somewhere. These guys are unskilled fighters anyway and most of them are obviously closet homosexuals. They are an embarrassment to fighters and civilized humans in general. So **** you scumbag and suck on my balls *****!
