    Kingry vs. Pitbull though...absolute corker that is, on paper. :ggg

    Let's say still super lightweight, for the sake of argument, and assume missing weight by 3+ pounds twice in a row against Duarte and Haney was a flukey lapse of discipline. Theoretically then this would be for the WBA regular world championship that Cruz currently holds after beating Romero.

    It's reported that it's being discussed for potentially "summer" - hence the most distal qualifying date, 8/31, which does happen to land nicely on a Saturday, in the poll as placeholder. Will replace that with the actual scheduled date if and when this ever becomes official.

    One common professional opponent: Tank, who controversially beat Cruz in 2021 and stopped García (in, notably, his last attempt at making the lightweight limit) in 2023.

    His hook might be better, but I trust Cruz's chin more. Then again he's giving up several inches of both height & reach, compared to García he's kind of a midget. Match-up is sexy as hell.

    I think one of haneys main issues vs Garcia was a lack of offense and he did not really make Garcia pay for mistakes. He won 2-5 but outside of one punch didn’t really do damage and he let Garcia get away with mistakes. I figure Cruz will make Garcia pay more for leaks in his defense

    that said Cruz will be more open to counters due to his aggressive style. Good fight not sure who to pick, lean slightly Garcia

    I'm still not sold on Garcia enough to lean his way, let alone pick him here.

    Yes he just had a great win against Haney but most of us knew Haney couldn't take a punch without becoming huggy bear. To add insult to injury Devin isn't what anyone would call heavy handed, quite the opposite.

    Ryan Garcia will not be enjoying either of those luxuries against Cruz, who can dish it out and take it as well.

    I'll have to think about this matchup more before I can commit to a pick, but I'm liking Isaac Cruz right now.

    Better chin, and I think as both fighters fight on the front foot on the inside, Cruz's style and better punch variety would probably win him a decision or late stoppage. I also think Cruz has more heart, if the going gets tough, Pitbull might have the edge.

    But Ryan is a wildcard with speed and explosiveness that can't be taught, that could negate Cruz's advantages. He's also the naturally bigger guy, so the weight it takes place at would impact the result too. And as the A-side, Golden Boy might be able to negotiate a catchweight above 140.

    Let's be honest, Rollie wouldn't make it out of the first round against Ryan, while it's highly doubtful that Thomas Mattice, Giovanna Cabrera, Francisco Vargas or Jose Matias Romero would see the final bell against Kingry either. Hell, arguably Romero, Mattice and Cabrera all should have eked out decision wins over Cruz. The reality is, Cruz is a marauding southpaw killer, he's obliterated or terrorized everyone of them he's fought to date, because his relentless pressure and double barrel assault usually discombobulates them so, they back to the ropes and start squaring up, leaving them a sitting ducks for clean hook to the chin. It's why I picked him to beat Tank. But Cruz has always been far less effective when it comes to cutting off he ring against fellow orthodox fighters, there's no real reason it should have taken him as long as it did to dispatch Gamboa or Rollie, but that further backs up my point. Now, with Ryan employing that horrendous attempt at a shoulder roll, giving his full bak to his opponents, that will leave him very open to compact heavy flush left hooks from Cruz. Here's hoping if I realize that, Derrick James will as well, and stresses that to him and repeatedly to avoid that **** at any and all cost. This is a winnable fight for both men, but I lean towards Ryan here, due to the tremendous size, speed and power advantage, which will make him gunshy, similar to what's happened with him against other orthodox fighters. Leading him to lose on points. This would be Cruz's second match at 140, and he wasn't al that spectacular in his debut against Romero. But a KO victory from either wouldn't shock me in the least either.

    Right now I’d lean towards Garcia due to his speed and power, but Pitbull is definitely a live dog. Garcia said he cannot make 140, so it would have to be at a catchweight. Pitbull didn’t look good in his fight prior to Rollie, which concerned me although I was confident he’d KO Rollie. As far as Garcia goes, he’s a grab bag, as you never know what you’ll get.
