What top lightweights, junior welters or welterweights does Golden Boy have? Other promoters have those guys. Garcia would be fine if he left them. It's not like they control all the belts where Garcia wants to compete.

Garcia is arrogant. But Oscar and Hopkins are even more arrogant. They say they want to build stars, and the moment anyone gets a little too famous, they start having "big" problems with them. It's like they never want to even feel like they may be eclipsed by their fighters.

You knew Canelo's relationship with them was doomed when he became the biggest Latino boxing star and a middleweight champion (two things that crossed over into Oscar and Bernard's territory).

To Golden Boy, a 'famous' fighter is Jaime Mungai. He wins belts. He shuts up. He isn't known much at all outside of boxing. He never becomes a crossover anything. Just stays in his place.

They are really a niche market promoter now. They promote lighter weight Latino fighters. If you aren't latino and you aren't a lighter weight fighter, you'd better be related to Shane Mosley, who's also owns shares. Otherwise, they don't seem much interested.

This is a good post & i was going to add onto what you said about Mungia or even Ortiz can be put in that position of how you described it, rightfully said.

I think the sport needs a culture change, Oscar and Bernard tried convincing Garcia not to take the Tank fight, to marinate it etc , which was sensible, I won't deny that, but it also puts them in a position where they were trying to stop a fight a lot of fans were interested in, in order to make money from it down the line and to protect Garcia's 0. Garcia said balls to that, make the fight.
Now was it a cash grab on Garcia's part, knowing he probably won't win at the top top level, so he's getting in, getting paid, and planning to get out of the sport early, maybe so.
But had he not fought tank and gone the route Oscar and Bernard wanted, it would have been another soft touch opponent and we as fans would be demanding a step up fight, many of us would have speculated about a Tank v García matchup while complaining about fighters marinating fights and protecting their 0.

Boxers have a short career and largely inactive ones these days, so the more big fights the top fighters can make in that timeframe, the more storied their career is, win lose or draw. The way Oscar and Bernard were ! They were in countless big fights, particularly Oscar

Because that's what happens in business. That doesn't change the fact that GBP make their best fight the best in most cases.

This shows how mentally weak Garcia is. He has plenty of time and opportunity to vent his opinion about Bernard and Oscar. Not on a day from his fight. Him missing weight is proff his head isn't in the game. He is more concerned wth outside crap than the fight itself.

Oscar De La Hoya is slime. He came across as the good, nice person. But he's anything but. Drug taking, cross dressing. Weird ****. But it's not even that which is the worst of it. It's abandoning your own fighter after the toughest time in his career, and one of the worst moments of his life.

    Scum.

Love the hate for Ryan. But it doesn't confirm what we already know. He's a winner.

The losers can't take it. They hate winners. Good on you Ryan Garcia. He's got it all.

Maybe it's Garcia who is the problem. Ever thought about that? He's a cry baby. He lied to everyone about being focused and couldn't even make weight at 140.

I don't even understand how you can be a Garcia apologist. The dude was given everything in a silver platter and still managed to royally **** up.

GBP doesn't owe Ryan anything, it's the other way around. PBC, Matchroom, and Top Rank would have already fed him to the hounds.

It's not that it's just GBP wanted Ryan to build up to that big Tank fight & get more experience along the way as he clearly needed it & most non casuals knew he had no chance defeating Tank Davis especially then.

It also upset them that Ryan has consistently let others from " the other side of the street " easily get into his ears & distort his thinking with the latest example of his Lawyer who convinced Ryan to take the re hydration clause to make the fight which is the same thing you see Ryan rambling about nowadays in one interview after the next complaining about how it's the main reason he lost the fight.

They've essentially ruined GB Promotions biggest draw & his development which would have led to even more continuous returns especially with today's generation of knowing the landscape of fans who ride or die over one loss & they're coveted undefeated records & that's the thank you GBP get back from Ryan after they helped for years in building him up.

At the same time Oscar isn't able to maintain any professional relationship with his popular fighters due to his ego & is an expert at sabotaging himself & his Company like clockwork, at this point he could have been right next to the Arum's,etc but he continuous on putting himself in the minus time & time again.

I never understood why Oscar brought Hopkins into Golden Boy in the first place. What does Hopkins bring to the table anyway?

    He might ko Duarte.

He hasn’t accomplished anything near ODLH or Hopkins.

What he just did there was the equivalent of Ty Fields telling Muhammad Ali to go **** himself.

About to be eclipsed? Garcia got battered by Tank, how near is he to eclipsing B-hop or DLH?
