With all the nonsense and drama around Ryan Garcia talking trash about ODLH and asking to be let out of his contract I can’t help but wonder what would happen if that occurred... Would his career stall like Gamboa’s did with that Fifty Cent debacle? Does Garcia have the head and discipline to make adjustments as he ages and loses speed? Thoughts? Try to keep it civil.
No. Gamboa was without question legit and a freakish talent. Garcia has done nothing to prove he's anything other than a fast puncher, and even then he's only done that a very low level. Until Garcia beats someone who's not a no-hoper, he shouldn't be even put in these conversations. I doubt he'll beat Campbell, and I thought he was the worst of the prospects to come through.
Do You see Garcia getting obliterated when he steps up competition? Another Anthony Hembrick? For anyone who doesn’t know Google Anthony Hembrick, his story is hilarious and sad at the same time.
Not completely. I think he'll be one of those dangerous guys but with little punch resistance. He doesn't look like he has the jaw or the legs to take a world class puncher's best. If he does turn out like Hembrick, it wouldn't surprise me though.
It's still too early to tell. Garcia is still young and has yet achieved something important in his career. Gamboa was a monster in featherweight and was ducked by many. And as far as I remember Gamboa didn't talk too much like Garcia.
He's not impressive at all to me as of yet. Still plenty of time to grow into himself, though. Small head, small jaw, and skinny neck typically doesn't make for great punch resistance. There's a decent thread idea, though.
His diva whinging annoys me so i desperately try to avoid his social media. I dont like that he stands tall with his chin up and i think he is limited as a boxer. Yes, his left hook is quick and has knocked people out but as his opponents go up in skill theyre going to negate that and i dont think he has the depth to come up with anything. Campbell will be a test for sure but i highly doubt it will happen. It will be blamed on Corona, money, visa's but the truth will be he's not ready and hes worth more knocking out sub par people for instagram likes and twitter retweets.
I remember the first times I saw Loma, Gamboa, and Rigo, and only needing about 15 seconds of each to diagnose them future p4p superstars possibly a generational talent. Their talent JUMPED off the screen. I remember the first time I saw Garcia. I wanted to punch his head in.
Gamboa is the epitome of mismanaged. He should have been a great at the lower weights but climbed too high too late in his career chasing dollarydoos.
I usually don’t dislike fighters other than obvious ped users however I will admit if someone pulled a Wilder vs Breazeale one punch obliteration of Ryan Garcia’s suspect jaw, I’d put it in a gif loop that runs every time I boot up my pc.
Garcia is a kid and has loads of time. Gamboa went pro late and messed around with promotional issues for years.
