Ryan Garcia is a textbook example of how not to build a fighter. Oscar threw a green inexperienced prospect against arguably one of the most murderous punchers in the sport after beating Tagoe and Fortuna. The inexperience showed almost immediately as he got aggressive out of nowhere in the second round and was gunning for the KO only to get dropped. Had Ryan took his time and remained active this year and fought the likes of Isaac Cruz, Hector Garcia, Ortiz, etc he would have been more prepared for the showdown against Tank next year. I visibly cringed every time Garcia turned his back and cowered in fear when Tank closed the distance as to avoid the body shot. This is not the defence of a professional fighter and reeks of fear. I don't think I have ever seen that in such a big fight. This is why fighters shouldn't be rushed into fights they are obviously not ready for. Hopefully he can bounce back if his heart is still in the game but I think he has cashed out.
I think they banked too much on the Campbell win. It was a good win but… Luke wasn’t really the same guy who Loma beat. And Ryan did get zapped pretty good in that one.
If one of those power punches in the first round and a half before the knock down landed you'd be speaking the opposite
Oscar didn’t have any choice, this is all on Garcia. And/or whoever manages him. I clearly remember Oscar trying to bring this kid up the right way but he kept creating drama because he wants to do all these fights now and retire as soon as possible. Oscar was even taking heat. The decision to vehemently chase Davis. To accept all the dumb terms. All Ryan.
The promoter always has a choice. Floyd was able to protect Tank until he felt he was ready why couldn't Oscar.
He was definitely rushed, he's only 24 and still technically very raw as a fighter and needed more time to hone his craft before stepping up to this level. I'd also say that Tank was a horrible style match up for him. Garcia loves to lead and often over commits and reaches with his shots and Tank is a patient counter puncher with one punch power. So yeah his management should have done a better job and allowed him time to develop.
Might sound strange but I think Ryan’s crazy social media following is a culprit also. Helped push/rush him along
I totally agree with that. He was covering up in fear more so than defense. He had a shot if he would have stayed composed and boxed. The thing is, Tank was out boxing him as well. He should have over worked that right hand of his, That would have kept Tank honest. Tank was reading that wild left hook a minute before it got there.
Oscar ain't never been able to beat Mayweather at any endeavor and when he thought he had a shot with Ryan, he rushed him into that fight. He just has a need to defeat Floyd at something.
I see a lot of people like Goose. Personally, I don't think he's a very good trainer or commentator at this point.
That’s just not true. Ryan was throwing Oscar under the bus. Ruining his image and consequently the future of his company. He already had some bad press due to his fallout with Canelo. Oscar had no choice in this matter. It was either chain up Ryan forcefully which probably would’ve gone to court or give the Ryan what he wanted and get his cut. Floyd has no control over Davis. Haymon is Davis’ manager and runs all of his business. Davis, unlike Ryan, has enough life experience to leave the business, to the business men (nvm the Haymon “green light” and NDA’s). Ryan Garcia is a child mentally.
