Ryan's shoulder roll is awful. He was never in a position to counter and anyone with a little bit of reach will land an overhand right on his head. He also use it at the worst times, completely stymieing his own offense. When he had Haney down or hurt, he goes into his weird shoulder roll instead of attacking Haney.
It wasn’t a shoulder roll. It was turning your side and back to your opponent. All Garcia opponent should lay that ground work in the pre fight talk with ref, that if Garcia turns side or back he is going to get punch regardless if a point deduction isnt given.
That's my biggest criticism of his performance against Haney, that back-turning nonsense. Some hard-ass refs might issue warnings and dock points for continued infractions, and opponents are going to absolutely nail him with kidney shots under the auspices of "protect yourself at all times" - which I could see leading to Ryan in pain wanting recovery time for the foul with some disinclined refs being like "no, screw you, I'm giving you a count".
We gotta coin a new term for this, shoulder roll just doesn't do any justice to this beautiful technique.
