I know I just posted about it in the other topic, but I think this deserves its own topic. because so often fighters get criticized for "running", for moving away, and giving an opponent footwork. Ryan's herky-jerky side to side, and sometimes backwards movement clearly seemed to change the course of this match. And it started with it looking like Ryan was getting gunshy or was afraid to engage. But it was really a brilliant strategy. He got some boos for it, when he started doing it, taking parts of rounds off you could say, giving away some rounds, but look at what it led to. This herky-jerky side to side movement paid dividends. This was a fight that had he not decided to back way, move side to side, could have turned into a KO loss for him, or a one-sided UD for Haney. But by stepping back, using movement, biding his time, and setting traps for Devin, this was the catalyst to his fight turnaround. This should be a lesson to all boxing fans that you should never boo a fighter for simply taking some time off during a round, and giving an opponent some footwork, and creating new angles. It can lead to the upset of a lifetime. I think it's safe to say that Ryan would not have won this fight if not for all that footwork heading into Round 7, which led to him being able to time and catch Devin with that peach of a left hook in the 7th and all the punishment he dished out from that point on.
